The High School Sports Announcer serves as the “Voice of the [School Mascot/Team Name].” This role is responsible for delivering professional, engaging, and accurate public address (PA) announcements and play‑by‑play or public address commentary during home athletic events. The ideal candidate will bring energy and enthusiasm to the venue, enhance the game‑day experience for student‑athletes and fans, and maintain a high level of sportsmanship, neutrality, and professionalism at all times.
Key Responsibilities

Game-Day Announcing: Serve as the primary PA announcer for multiple sports, including but not limited to Football, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, and Baseball/Softball.

Pre-Game & Post-Game Protocol: Read pre-game scripts, welcome fans, introduce teams and starting lineups, read sportsmanship statements, and announce the National Anthem. Provide final scores and post-game logistics.

In-Game Commentary & Information: Announce live game actions clearly and accurately (e.g., scoring plays, substitutions, fouls/penalties, timeouts, and official statistics) without showing bias.

Script Reading & Promotions: Read promotional scripts, corporate/local sponsorship acknowledgments, upcoming school events, and emergency safety protocols as provided by the Athletic Department.

Audio & Equipment Management: Assist with setting up, testing, and tearing down the PA system, microphones, and music playback equipment before and after events.

Atmosphere Enhancement: Select and play appropriate, school-sanctioned music during warm-ups, timeouts, halftime, and breaks in play to maintain high energy in the venue.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Vocal Presentation: Strong, clear, and articulate speaking voice with excellent command of pronunciation (especially for student‑athlete names).

Sports Knowledge: Deep understanding of the rules, terminology, and pacing of various high school sports (NFHS regulations).

Situational Awareness: High level of alertness to follow fast‑paced game action, official signals, and director cues.

Composure Under Pressure: Ability to remain calm, professional, and authoritative during intense game moments or unexpected emergencies.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and occasionally holidays based on the athletic schedule.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (2–4 hours per game) in various settings, including indoor gymnasiums and outdoor press boxes or fields exposed to weather elements.

Must pass a standard school district background check.
