Overview
Join SFR as our Social Media Manager Intern and help grow our online community on Instagram and TikTok. This role is responsible for planning, creating, and publishing content across the organization’s social media platforms to raise awareness about refugee issues and highlight ongoing initiatives. Day-to-day tasks include drafting posts, designing basic visual content, scheduling campaigns, monitoring engagement, optimizing content using social media best practices, filming short-form video for social platforms, and operating camera and recording audio for live events and interviews. The intern will collaborate with the leadership team to keep a content calendar, align social media activities with organizational goals, track performance metrics, and support outreach for events, fundraisers, and educational programs. The intern will also stay up to date on social media trends and bring fresh ideas to the team. The intern may also be expected to contribute to website design, LinkedIn, and SFR\'s professional online pages.

Responsibilities

Create and publish minimum of four pieces of content each week for Instagram and TikTok

Plan and maintain a weekly content calendar

Attend SFR events when available and capture photos and videos

Create event promotions before events and recap content afterward

Write engaging captions and research relevant hashtags

Monitor trends and suggest new content ideas

Track social media performance and submit a monthly report

Help maintain a consistent brand across all platforms

Engage with followers and other student organizations

Commitment of 4-6 hrs per week (remote, seasonally hybrid)

Qualifications

Interest in social media, marketing, communications, or content creation

Competency with Instagram and TikTok

Creative, organized, and reliable

Experience with Canva, CapCut, Adobe Express, or similar editing tools is a plus but not required

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited institution for the duration of the internship as part of our student-led organizational charter.

Equipped with a 4K camera (DSLR, video production, iPhone, etc) and quality microphone

Majors in communications, marketing, social sciences, or a related field are preferred but not required.

Based in greater Houston or willing to commute periodically
