Job Title: Audio Visual Technician
Job Description
The Audio Visual Technician installs, configures, and maintains audio, video, and structured cabling systems in commercial environments. This role focuses on pulling, terminating, and testing copper, coaxial, and fiber cabling, as well as installing devices such as TVs, speakers, cameras, CCTV systems, and projectors. The technician ensures high-quality, safe, and reliable installations while working both independently and as part of a crew.

Responsibilities

Install and configure audio and visual equipment, including TVs, speakers, cameras, CCTV systems, and projectors in commercial facilities.

Pull, route, and secure copper cabling (Cat 5, Cat 6) through pathways such as cable trays, ladder racks, and J-hooks.

Terminate, label, and test copper network cables to meet performance and quality standards.

Perform IDF buildouts, including rack assembly, equipment mounting, cable management, and labeling.

Use test equipment, including Fluke testers and modular cable testers, to verify cable performance and troubleshoot issues.

Terminate and reinstall coaxial and fiber optic cables as required for new installations or upgrades.

Interpret and follow directions, drawings, and basic blueprints to complete installations accurately.

Utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively for cutting, fastening, and mounting cable and equipment.

Run and lead small crews on-site, coordinating tasks and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to specification.

Work in a variety of indoor and outdoor commercial environments, including at heights and in confined spaces, while following safety practices.

Communicate professionally with customers on-site, manage expectations, and address basic questions or concerns.

Maintain organized work areas, properly route and dress cabling, and ensure a clean, finished appearance for all installations.

Essential Skills

Hands-on experience installing audio and visual systems, including TVs, speakers, cameras, CCTV, and projectors in commercial settings.

Strong ability to pull cable through pathways and structures, including cable trays, ladder racks, and J-hook systems.

Proficiency terminating and testing copper network cables (Cat 5, Cat 6) to industry standards.

Experience with IDF buildouts, including rack assembly and equipment installation.

Ability to use Fluke testers and modular cable testers to certify and troubleshoot cabling.

Experience terminating and reinstalling coaxial cable and fiber optic cable.

Comfort working at heights and on ladders in a safe and controlled manner.

Comfort working in confined spaces while adhering to safety guidelines.

Ability to read and follow directions and basic blueprints or construction documents.

Experience running or leading a crew on-site and coordinating tasks.

Proficiency with hand and power tools commonly used in low-voltage and cabling work.

General understanding of wiring, electrical, mechanical, and construction environments relevant to cable installation.

Capability to manage customer interactions professionally during on-site work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with cable tray, ladder rack, and J-hook installation for structured cabling.

Background in wire pulling within construction or commercial build environments.

Familiarity with blueprint reading for routing cable and planning equipment locations.

Ability to work around mechanical and electrical systems safely.

Experience with rack assembly and organizing network or AV equipment.

Comfort using specialized tools such as punch tools with 110 and 66 block blades, tone sets, 6/8 position combo crimp tools, and Krone/3M/BIX tools.

Strong attention to detail in cable management, labeling, and routing.

Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and site contacts.

Work Environment
The role is based in indoor and outdoor commercial facilities, working on construction sites, finished spaces, and various types of buildings. You regularly work on ladders and at heights, as well as in confined spaces, while following safety practices. The position requires daily use of hand and power tools, including screwdrivers, drywall saws, torpedo levels, tape measures, snips with belt sheath, pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammers, cable strippers, flashlights, and gloves. You also use specialized low-voltage tools such as punch tools with 110 and 66 block blades, tone sets, 6/8 position combo crimp tools, and Krone/3M/BIX tools. Work conditions may vary depending on the facility and stage of construction, and attire should be appropriate for a commercial jobsite environment.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
