Social Media Consultant
Employment Status: Full time. Shift: Day (United States of America). Facility: 213 McClanahan St SW - Roanoke CP07 Carilion Medical Center. Requisition Number: R161217. Hours: Primarily Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with other hours as needed.

Carilion Clinic is seeking an experienced, creative, and strategic social media professional to lead the planning, execution, and evolution of our social media presence. As our social media consultant, you’ll help shape how we connect with patients, physicians, clinicians, employees, and the communities we serve. This role blends strategic thinking with hands‑on content creation, photography, videography, analytics, and community engagement to build meaningful connections, strengthen our brand, and support organizational priorities. The position is based in Roanoke, Virginia. A hybrid work arrangement may be available, with regular on‑site work required for meetings, events, content gathering, and organizational initiatives.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute comprehensive social media strategies, including annual social media plans, that support organizational goals and elevate the Carilion brand.

Develop platform‑specific strategies and oversee Carilion’s presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, and emerging social media channels.

Create, edit, and publish engaging social media content, including copy, graphics, photography, and video.

Lead organic and paid social media campaigns from planning through execution and optimization.

Manage social media content calendars and oversee daily publishing, engagement, and community management.

Collaborate with communications, marketing, and organizational leaders to integrate social media into broader campaigns and initiatives.

Monitor social media trends, platform updates, competitor activity, and audience behavior to identify opportunities and recommend strategic improvements.

Track, analyze, and report social media performance, adjusting strategies based on audience engagement, campaign results, and organizational objectives.

Monitor brand sentiment and identify emerging issues, opportunities, and reputational trends.

Provide guidance and training to team members and internal stakeholders on social media best practices, content creation, community engagement, and platform updates.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Four or more years of professional experience in social media, communications, marketing, journalism, or digital content strategy.

Demonstrated success developing and executing social media strategies for an organization or brand.

Strong photography, videography, and photo/video editing skills, with a portfolio of professional work.

Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across multiple social media platforms.

Experience managing paid and organic social media campaigns.

Experience using social media management, monitoring, and analytics tools.

Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

What We Require
Education: Bachelor's degree is required. 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required, including at least 3 years of experience in a specialized marketing or communications function.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: None required. Life Support: Not applicable.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities. Requires strong analytical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. Must maintain broad knowledge across all marketing and communications areas while developing advanced expertise in one or two specific disciplines.

Compensation Range
$57,616.00 - $86,424.00

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
