Senior Manager, Technical Design
Location - NYC

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Senior Technical Designer to lead the fit and technical development of our apparel from concept through production. This role is critical in ensuring that every garment meets Walmart’s fit standards, performance expectations, and delivers an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with deep expertise in fit, pattern making, leading technical designers, and product lifecycle management for apparel. Core job responsibilities
- Fit Leadership: Lead and conduct live fit sessions using fit models, pattern expertise, and fit forms to evaluate samples for fit, performance, and functionality. Ensure alignment with design intent and customer performance expectations
- 2D & 3D Pattern Expertise: Utilize 2D & 3D pattern tools to validate initial patterns, blocks, and grading during product development through production. Establish and maintain grade rule tables and block libraries to streamline the fit process across product categories
- Customer-Centric Product Integrity: Drive a data‑led approach focused on customer insights, returns‑based learning loops, and implementing learnings to elevate fit to meet and exceed customer expectations
- Fit Quality & Technical Direction: Follow rigorous quality assurance gates through development, production, and post‑purchase stages. Lead and conduct internal and external wear tests to seek wearer feedback and implement corrective actions as needed. Provide detailed technical direction on fit and construction to vendor partners to meet design and fit intent
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Design, Product Development, and Sourcing teams and vendors to define and execute appropriate fit and functional intent for each product
- Technical Package Ownership: Strong PLM knowledge to manage end-to-end fit cycle. Create and maintain detailed technical packages in PLM, including specs, grading, construction details, and fit evaluation comments
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-8+ years of experience in technical design roles, with deep expertise in fit, grading, fabric, and pattern for apparel
- Proven ability to analyze data, solve complex challenges, and drive continuous improvement using agile, test‑and‑learn approaches
- Advanced proficiency in PLM, 3D, CAD, Miro Board, and related product development tools
- Strong operational mindset with experience translating product fit, quality, and customer metrics into actionable steps
- Skilled at leading fit sessions, collaborating with and influencing cross‑functional teams, and managing stakeholders at all levels
- Experience with performance fabrics and technical finishes (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop associates, including creating educational materials and delivering training programs
- Customer‑centric, innovative, and passionate about staying ahead of apparel trends
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Textiles, Design, or related field and 4 years’ experience in technical design, product development, or related area OR 6 years’ experience in technical design, product development, or related area.
1 year’s supervisory experience.

Annual salary range: $132,000.00 - $264,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
