Senior Web Engineer – Ruby on Rails & JavaScript

We are seeking an experienced Senior Web Engineer to help build and modernize sophisticated, client-facing research and analytics applications. This role will focus on the Ruby on Rails and front-end layers of a modern web platform supported by Java, Python, search technologies, microservices, and cloud infrastructure.
The ideal candidate combines strong Ruby on Rails experience with a solid understanding of front-end engineering fundamentals. You will collaborate with subject-matter experts and fellow engineers to develop scalable, secure, and user-focused solutions used by professionals to access trusted content, analytics, and actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain large-scale, client-facing web applications using Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript technologies.
Lead front-end modernization initiatives with an emphasis on improving security and maintainability.
Design sustainable applications, customer-facing APIs, and single-page web experiences.
Support hybrid-cloud architectures, containerized applications, and proactive system monitoring.
Partner with subject-matter experts to understand user challenges and translate them into effective technical solutions.
Collaborate with engineering teams to influence the application architecture and technology roadmap.
Develop well-tested, high-quality code within an automated CI/CD environment.
Help improve application scalability, performance, availability, and cross-browser compatibility.
Required Qualifications

At least 3 years of professional Ruby on Rails development experience.
At least 3 years of front-end web development experience.
Experience building large-scale, customer-facing web applications.
Strong knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, browser behavior, and core web-development principles.
Experience with Vue.js, React, Angular, or a comparable front-end framework.
Understanding of API-driven applications and modern web architecture.
Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline—or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Strong interest in automated testing and software quality.
Experience working with microservices and containerized applications.
Familiarity with Java- or Python-based APIs.
Exposure to AWS or hybrid-cloud environments.
Understanding of web application security, scalability, performance, availability, and continuous deployment.
Experience working with automated CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based testing environments.
