Young New Yorkers’ Chorus (YNYC) seeks an experienced and passionate collaborative pianist to accompany rehearsals and performances given by our Treble Ensemble.

The Treble Ensemble Pianist will work closely with all members of the YNYC Artistic Team to help bring our programming to life.

The Treble Ensemble Pianist must have a passion for choral music, value creating community through music, and an excitement for fostering the creation of new works by young composers.

The Treble Ensemble Pianist will work closely with our General & Artistic Director, Treble Ensemble Assistant Director, as well as other YNYC staff to create a productive and enjoyable music-making environment.

This role is a part-time role paid as an independent contractor, renewable upon mutual agreement. The application deadline is Friday, August 7th, 2026. We anticipate the starting date for this position to be Tuesday, September 1st.

Responsibilities

Serve as rehearsal pianist for all Treble Ensemble rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:30pm

Learn all repertoire, both a cappella and accompanied, for each concert cycle

Assist with rehearsal of a cappella repertoire/repertoire without piano accompaniment

Perform accompanied repertoire with the Treble Ensemble at YNYC-produced concerts

Assist Assistant Director and Section Leaders with in-rehearsal sectionals

Assist with other YNYC activities, such as our Daniel Thompson Memorial Competition for Young Composers

SCHEDULE

Weekly Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. Rehearsals start on September 9th and go through the first set of concerts, with a break for Thanksgiving. Spring rehearsals start on January 6th, and continue through the May 1st concert.

All YNYC 2026-2027 Season Concerts: December 11-12, 2026 & May 1, 2027

Recording Sessions: Wednesday, December 16th & Wednesday, May 5th, 2027

Saturday Rehearsals: September 26th, 2026 & March 13th, 2027 from 11:00am to 4:30pm

Most rehearsals and concerts take place at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin near Times Square. Some rehearsals take place at alternate spaces in either Midtown or Brooklyn.

Saturday rehearsals and recording sessions take place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

By applying, applicants guarantee that they are regularly available, with few, if any, exceptions, on Wednesday evenings, as well as recording sessions and Saturday rehearsals in the 2026-2027 season. Conflicts must be shared as a part of the initial application. Applicants who share regular scheduling conflicts later in the application process will be disqualified.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in music required, post-graduate training or equivalent experience preferred.

At least two years of experience as a collaborative pianist is required. We will consider applicants who only have collaborative experience with instrumentalists, but applicants with experience working with vocal ensembles will receive preference.

Demonstrate excellence at the keyboard, including sight-reading,open score reading, and flexibility and mastery with a wide range of musical styles and difficulty.

Experience premiering music and collaborating with composers is a plus

Experience singing in choral ensembles is a huge plus

Experience working with Treble singers and ensembles is a huge plus

Comfortable working with dedicated, passionate volunteers who sing at a high-level.

Proficiency in Google Workspace apps

Compensation & Details

Stipend: $7,500 paid as an independent contractor

Structure: Paid in equal installments across 12 months

Term: One year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027), renewable by mutual agreement
