Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. Job Description Summary:
The part-time, temporary, stage manager (SM) in performing Arts will provide practical and organizational support to the director, actors, designers, stage crew, and technicians throughout the production process. They are also the director’s representative during rehearsals and performances, making sure that the production runs smoothly and maintains its artistic integrity. During rehearsals, the director and the SM work side by side, with the SM recording the director’s decisions about blockingand notes for the actors, keeping track of logistical details, and communicating what goes on in rehearsals to the rest of the team.
Responsibilities:
Scheduling and running rehearsals
Documenting and communicating rehearsal and performance progress though the production timeline
Overseeing performances and maintaining the director’s creative vision
Procuring paperwork to facilitate rehearsals and performances
Attending production meetings and mainstreaming
communications between the director and the production team.
Coordinating technical elements and labor for performances
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Understanding of Technical Theatre and design concepts
Experience serving as a communication link for large groups of people
Ability to work a varied schedule based on production needs
Evening and weekend hours are required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications:
Experience running and managing groups of people in rehearsal and performance environments
Experience developing processes for theatrical operations
