Overview The Montana Standard in Butte is seeking an innovative, digital-first sports leader to work with a statewide team of editors and reporters to drive coverage of local high school athletics, two NCAA Division I universities and six NAIA colleges. The ideal candidate will be a jack-of-all-trades who writes, edits and coaches, networks and builds relationships, and organizes and strategizes coverage – including video and photo elements – on local high schools, two NAIA colleges, and statewide coverage throughout the year. The role uses analytics to inform decision-making and reports to the statewide sports director. It also leads content for 406mtsports.com, the statewide sports website, bringing together coverage from across Montana including high schools from Billings to Missoula, the Big Sky Conference with Montana and Montana State, and the NAIA’s Frontier Conference including Montana Tech in Butte and Montana Western in Dillon.
Responsibilities Write, edit and coach reporters and editors.
Network and build relationships with high schools, NAIA colleges and broader Montana sports communities.
Organize and strategize coverage across local and statewide sports, including video and photo elements.
Utilize analytics to inform coverage decisions and audience engagement.
Collaborate on statewide coverage and contribute to 406mtsports.com.
Context and Location Butte is the home base for this role, with statewide responsibilities across Montana. The position involves leading coverage that spans from local high schools to major conferences and colleges across the region.
