Overview
Position: Managing Editor K-12 | Location: Tinley Park | Job Id: 430 | # of Openings: 1 | Hybrid | Organization: Goodheart-Willcox Publisher, a proud employee-owned company and experts in Career and Technical Education (CTE).

The Managing Editor will collaborate with the editorial director and acquisitions editors to lead editorial developmental planning and execution for the products. The ideal candidate will have a background in educational publishing and experience supervising and guiding developmental assignments. This is a hybrid position with onsite work two to four days per month at our Tinley Park, Illinois office. Compensation is market-based and takes into account factors including skill set, experience, internal equity, and location. The anticipated starting salary range is $80,000 to $100,000 per year. The company also contributes 10% to the Employee Stock Ownership Plan and provides a 4% matching contribution to the 401(k).

What you’ll do

Work with the acquisitions team to lead list and product strategy and planning at the title level, including planning revision cycles and aligning development efforts with product market potential.

Collaborate with key editorial stakeholders to oversee planning and development for first editions and revised products.

Manage team efforts on core editorial project work, including:

Assess and, as appropriate, conduct market reviews on chapters.

Guide interactions with authors as they develop plans for product development.

Find qualified reviewers for texts as needed.

Coordinate with Creative Department during design, layout, proofreading, and other production steps.

Supervise, track, and communicate product scheduling milestones.

Support market research to stay informed of market trends, customer needs, and strengths/weaknesses of competing products.

Coordinate and support development efforts to find qualified authors and subject-matter experts to create and develop new products and supplemental materials.

Conduct teacher training workshops to inform stakeholders about product design or professional development as needed.

What you’ll bring

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree is a plus.

Minimum of three years of textbook development experience, including editorial and production phases.

Minimum of three years of prior people management experience.

Education, training, or experience in topics applicable to the team’s product line.

Excellent knowledge of basic language skills for editing tasks.

Teaching experience or college coursework in educational instruction or team-focused disciplines.

Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Word.
