Overview
Pioneer Farms is seeking a creative and motivated Marketing & Digital Media Intern to help share our stories with new audiences.
This semester-based internship provides hands-on experience in social media, digital storytelling, content creation, community engagement, and nonprofit marketing. Interns will help develop marketing ideas, create digital content, evaluate audience engagement, and explore new ways to connect with visitors.
As a small, privately operated museum, Pioneer Farms offers interns the opportunity to bring ideas forward, take ownership of projects, and see the impact of their work.
Responsibilities
Create content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok
Develop social media calendars and assist with marketing campaigns
Create and edit graphics, photos, videos, and written content
Photograph and document events, programs, exhibits, and museum activities
Help tell the stories of volunteers, artisans, interpreters, staff, and community partners
Collaborate with volunteers interested in digital storytelling and media projects
Research marketing trends and new outreach opportunities
Track social media growth, engagement, and audience trends
Suggest ideas to improve Pioneer Farms’ digital presence and visitor engagement
Projects may include developing social media campaigns, creating video content, improving online visibility, highlighting behind-the-scenes experiences, and exploring new ways to reach audiences.
Interns will have the opportunity to create portfolio-ready work and contribute ideas that help shape Pioneer Farms’ marketing.
Qualifications
Required:
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of social media platforms and digital communication
Ability to create, edit, and organize digital content
Attention to detail and professionalism
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with staff and volunteers
Reliability and willingness to learn
Preferred:
Currently enrolled in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media, Journalism, Graphic Design, Business, Museum Studies, History, or related fields
Interest in history, museums, education, tourism, storytelling, or community engagement
Experience with Canva, photography, video editing, or content creation
Experience managing social media, marketing projects, student organizations, volunteer groups, or community initiatives
Students from all majors are encouraged to apply.
Schedule
10–15 hours per week | 12-week semester internship
Flexible scheduling around academic commitments
Weekday hours scheduled during Pioneer Farms office hours ( Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM ) for collaboration, meetings, and museum projects
Hybrid work available for approved digital projects, research, and content development
Weekly supervisor check-ins
Some weekend availability required for events and public programs ( typically 10:00 AM–2:00 PM )
This is an unpaid semester internship opportunity designed to provide hands-on professional experience, mentorship, and portfolio development.
Students seeking academic credit may be eligible depending on university requirements. Pioneer Farms will assist with required documentation.
Successful interns who demonstrate initiative, creativity, and reliability may have opportunities for continued involvement through additional projects, expanded responsibilities, or future opportunities as available.
