Overview
The Senior Designer - UX will help lead the design and definition as a key contributor to our client's Core UX team responsible for integrating human-centered practices in unpacking and improving the digital customer experience across all stages of the travel journey. The Core UX team supports defining our client's digital product strategy and providing the leadership to execute on that strategy with cross-functional, mission-based teams. We are looking for an empathic, passionate, curious designer who values delivering high-quality solutions and thrives in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Hours: 9 to 5 pm CST
Work Location: Hybrid – 1 to 2 days onsite
Preferred city: Chicago
Travel: Yes; approximately 10 to 20% of time

Responsibilities
PLAN CONCEPT
Visualize ideas using professional design tools as well as sticky notes, sketch boards, whiteboard markers, or other tools necessary to rapidly work through ideation and move to the next stage
Initiate and respond to ideas for innovation/improvements based on research, analysis, and competitive reviews
Identify user needs and business requirements
Substantiate design approach with analysis and projections for improvements
DESIGN REFINE
Ensure digital customer touch points remain consistent with our client’s user experience and brand standards
Develop intuitive, usable, and engaging interactions
Drive the design of next-generation navigation schemes, patterns, components, and templates across the company’s products, ensuring a consistent, appealing, and dynamic customer experience
Create low and high fidelity interactive prototypes adhering to rapid, iterative, and collaborative processes
Work with usability researchers to design test plans and iterate designs during user testing. Translate usability findings into design improvements
DEFINE & COMMUNICATE
Create final design deliverables through detailed specifications including: process flows, wireframes, storyboards, high- and low-fidelity mockups, red-lines, and prototypes
Present design work to the UX team, product team, and executives for review and feedback
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, the larger UX team, and business partners throughout the design process
Communicate with multiple stakeholders to synthesize review feedback and progress with a user-centered focus
During implementation, respond to day-to-day questions from developers, product managers, and project managers
Work with QA to identify, document, and verify bug fixes
Provide guidance and mentor junior designers
Education / Certification
BA/BS or equivalent work experience required
Knowledge / Skills
Solid grasp of web design principles and a good understanding of front-end web technologies required
Excellent understanding of user experience design for the Web, mobile, and touch devices required
Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Experience in writing detailed design specifications (IA, workflow, page functionality and layout, etc.) used by developers
Self-starter who can create schedules and define scope of work even without clear requirements
Strong ability to communicate, defend design decisions, and respond quickly to business needs
Proven ability to set design direction and collaborate with other designers
A team player who can adapt in a rapidly changing environment
Experience
5 years professional UX design experience required
8 years professional UX design experience preferred

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Portfolio must showcase strong visual design craft and high-fidelity UI work. This is a critical evaluation component.
Experience designing consumer-facing digital products at scale.
Ability to balance UX strategy with hands-on design execution.
Strong understanding of design systems and scaling consistent experiences across products.
Experience presenting and defending design decisions to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and help define solutions when requirements are not fully established.
Experience in travel, loyalty, financial services, ecommerce, or other complex customer journey environments is preferred.
Demonstrated experience translating business objectives and user needs into intuitive digital experiences.
Candidates with conversational AI, GenAI, chatbot, virtual assistant, or AI-enabled product design experience are highly preferred.
Strong portfolio examples highlighting interaction design, micro-interactions, mobile experiences, and visual storytelling.

This is a contract position based out of Chicago, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on job classification and length of employment.
