Digital Strategist
Location: Hybrid. Preference for Montgomery residence.

About the Position
We are seeking a creative, strategic, and highly collaborative Digital Strategist to lead and execute digital communications initiatives that strengthen the ACLU of Alabama’s presence in core issues such as criminal legal reform, gender justice, and voting rights. This role is responsible for developing engaging social media content, managing online campaigns, supporting web projects, analyzing performance metrics, and helping grow and engage online audiences. This role requires someone who is both creative and analytical, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable producing and appearing in video content. This role will work closely with National and Affiliate staff and will both attend and cover ACLU events.

The ideal candidate is a digital storyteller who understands how to blend creativity, strategy, and analytics to build impactful online campaigns and engaging digital experiences. They are adaptable, proactive, and excited to contribute innovative and creative ideas while working collaboratively across teams.

Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy & Content Production

Develop and execute social media strategies that align with organizational goals and campaign priorities

Create, produce, and publish engaging social content with a strong emphasis on video production

Help plan content calendars and coordinate content across platforms

Write compelling copy for social media posts, campaigns, and other digital communications

Stay current on digital trends, platform updates, and emerging content formats

Attend ACLU of Alabama and community partner events

Social Advertising

Plan, manage, and optimize paid social media campaigns

Monitor ad performance and adjust targeting, messaging, and creative to maximize engagement and reach

Collaborate on digital fundraising or advocacy strategies as needed

Community Management

Monitor and engage with audiences across social platforms

Foster meaningful online conversations and maintain an active digital community presence

Respond to comments, messages, and community inquiries in a timely and professional manner

Web Projects

Support website updates, online campaigns, and other digital projects

Collaborate on web design improvements and user experience enhancements

Ensure digital content is current, accessible, and aligned with brand standards

Analytics & Reporting

Track and analyze social media and website metrics

Prepare regular analytics reports with insights and recommendations

Use data to inform content strategy, audience engagement, and campaign optimization

Cultural Responsibility

Bring an understanding of racial injustice and the urgency of confronting institutional racism and inequity into our approach to development.

Commit to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture.

Engage in relationship building with program staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring
The Digital Strategist must demonstrate the following qualifications and skills:

Strong experience managing social media platforms and creating digital content

Video production and editing experience, including short-form social video content

Demonstrated experience building and executing online campaigns

Experience with web design or website management

Graphic design skills and proficiency with creative tools/platforms

Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills

Comfortable appearing on camera for digital content creation

Strong creative thinking skills with an analytical mindset

Highly collaborative with strong communication skills

Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others as part of a team

Ability to learn systems including Microsoft Office, Asana, WordPress and other tools

Ability to travel within the state of Alabama and work occasional evenings, weekends, and irregular hours

Preferred Skills

At least three years of professional experience in digital communications, digital strategy, or social media management

Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Experience with social media advertising platforms, analytics tools, and content management systems

Experience in building digital campaigns for large-scale social impact

Experience working in nonprofits or organizations focused on social impact, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Ability to think proactively, develop creative and effective solutions, and take initiative
