**Job Status:** Active---## Job OverviewThe Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art is seeking an Exhibits Specialist for the production division (cabinet shop) of its Exhibitions department. This is a full-time, indefinite Trust Fund position based in Washington, DC, reporting to the Production Manager. The museum is in the early stages of a four-year gallery transformation project, and this role will be heavily involved in fabricating new exhibition casework and furnishings.The role fabricates and finishes museum display furnishings: cases, pedestals, platforms, partitions, sign panels, and specialized housings for lighting or AV equipment; prepares and refurbishes exhibition spaces, analyzes design specifications to determine fabrication methods in consultation with exhibition designers, develops production and installation timelines and materials needs, maintains materials and equipment inventories, and reviews design plans at the 35%, 65%, and 95% stages as part of cross-departmental exhibition teams.Requirements:* Undergraduate/graduate education in illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or a related field, or equivalent vocational/technical training* 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09, including reading shop drawings and floor plans/3D renderings, advanced knowledge of cabinetmaking, joinery, and materials like plywood, Medex, acrylic, and PVC* Experience with CNC router operation highly desirable* Familiarity with workshop safety protocols; ability to work both independently and collaboratively*Editorially sourced — This listing was identified and summarized by Pitchly Hire from the Smithsonian Institution’s public careers page.
