Job Summary
Manage an alpine retail and ski/snowboard rental shop located in Telluride, CO. The Store Manager will need to successfully manage a fast‑paced retail and rental environment, multitask, and manage multiple customers. Lead, mentor, and train a staff of 5–10 employees on providing exceptional service to our guests. The Store Manager oversees day‑to‑day functions of all store operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for managed location.

Train staff on retail and rental operating procedures and processes

Create a positive team environment

Maintain rental fleet tunes and ASTM requirements

Proficient in POS operations including opening/closing procedures and reporting.

Lead daily operations, monitoring performance and budget including scheduling and payroll

Maintain administrative responsibilities including training, staffing, budgeting and reporting

Maintain daily store records for performance, sales metrics, inventory control and equipment rentals (if applicable)

Hire and train employees in POS system operation, product knowledge, guest service, sales techniques and loss prevention policies and procedures

Monitor team performance and behavior to provide meaningful feedback and direction, providing recognition or correction action if necessary

Maintain up-to-date product knowledge and provide excellent customer service through timely response to customer questions, suggestions, complaints, and recognition

Hold regular staff meetings to ensure health and safety standards and company policies are being followed.

Address staff needs and complaints

Establish Performance goals for staff, conduct bi‑annual and annual performance appraisals.

Prepare store for retail and rental inventories

Maintain retail / rental inventory to prevent shrink

Participate with leadership forums providing feedback and input on store performance, training, and continuous improvement opportunities.

Willingness to support other departments in the Retail / Rental division.

Know and enforce safety initiatives consistent with company guidelines.

Supports Telluride Ski & Golf sustainability initiatives.

Adheres to Telluride Ski & Golf policies and procedures.

Promote, support and understand all activities and events occurring on or off mountain

Communicate companywide messages and new information to staff

Perform related tasks or special projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing staff complaints and resolving problems. Prepares and communicates weekly staff schedules. Submits payroll and computes staff commissions for each pay period.

Employee is returning to retail sales within the company or has at least two‑year previous experience in sales or retail.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED. Bachelor degree in related field or four years minimum of retail management experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
Knowledge of Retail Point of Sale Systems, proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, internet search engines, basic accounting, and Adobe.

Other Qualifications

Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

Minimum 2‑year previous experience in managing or supervising employees required

Previous experience in resort, rental operations preferred

Knowledge of alpine rental equipment preferred

Advanced knowledge of snow‑sports preferred

Experience in recreation or winter sports industry preferred

Ability to work unsupervised

Must be able to identify areas that may need improvement and have initiative to seek solutions.

Maintain good relationships with internal staff, other store management and personnel and corporate office personnel

Ability to work in a fast‑paced retail and rental environment, multitask and manage multiple customers

Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, and reach. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with team lifting. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is infrequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

Compensation
Expected pay range $58,500 to $68,500 per year. Individual compensation decisions are based on experience and a variety of factors.
