Public Involvement Coordinator

Education & Outreach Program Manager

The primary responsibility of this position will be to develop and implement programs designed to involve and educate the public on the conservation of natural resources and coordinate and lead associated public involvement programs to meet the needs of the Hamilton County Conservation District.
The employee occupying this position is responsible to the Board of Supervisors and shall be subject to the direction of the Board. The Education & Outreach Program Manager will be the direct supervisor.
Responsibilities

30% Develop conservation and natural resource programs to involve and educate the public. Major duties include:
Develop public involvement & public education programs
Update and develop outreach materials pertaining to backyard conservation topics
Oversee the implementation of MCM 2 requirements of the NPDES Phase II SW permit
Evaluate programs and implement updated strategies to encourage conservation practices
Build collaborative partnerships with organizations who have shared objectives
Manage the District's Native Plant Kit and Seed Sale and assist with other sales as needed
Identify funding and grant opportunities, write grants and funding proposals, manage projects, and report results to funders
Develop and distribute the Storm Water District newsletter and contribute to the District's newsletters as needed
Update websites as needed with current programs/sales, etc.
50% Coordinate and lead public involvement programs (examples include restoration events, volunteer opportunities, public education campaigns, etc). Major duties include:
Lead and promote backyard conservation programs with a focus on lawn care, native/invasive plants, rain gardens, and other stormwater best management practices
Organize quarterly community and volunteer activities/events to implement or maintain backyard conservation and stream protection practices
Give technical and general presentations and assistance to residents, organizations, community groups, green industry professionals, and interested businesses
Manage the District's Master Rain Gardener program with local partners
Coordinate and lead the district's involvement in storm drain labeling and live staking
15% Assist with watershed planning, restoration, and monitoring activities. Major duties include:
Coordinate and lead monthly meetings of the Regional Watershed Network
Provide yearly training and technical support (as needed) for local volunteer water quality monitoring labs, including updating and submitting Level 2 QAPP & PSP documents and to OEPA annually for each lab
Provide electrofishing educational programs and technical assistance (max 4) for regional partners data collection, may include QHEI
5% Maintain records of activities and contacts.
Develop reports for the Board of Supervisors (monthly and additional as needed) and Storm Water District (monthly and additionally as needed)
Other duties as required by the Board of Supervisors
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Biology, Geography, or related field.
A direct working knowledge of conservation issues as they apply to soil and water. Knowledge of NPDES Phase II Storm Water Regulations is a definite plus.
Work well within a team. Respect and support the initiative of others, communicate in a timely and candid manner with team members and supervisors.
Basic computer skills that include Microsoft Office. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a plus.
Familiarity with stream assessment methodologies (e.g. physical habitat evaluations, geomorphic surveys, biological sampling, chemical water quality monitoring).
Hands-on, site-scale watershed restoration experience (e.g. rain garden installation, live stake installation, native planting and maintenance, invasive plant management).
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and to traverse uneven terrain while carrying up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Maintain a valid driver's license and car insurance.
Ability to pass a county background check.
Administration:

The salary range for this position is $25.90 – $33.67 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a permanent full-time position with health benefits and participation in the OPERS retirement system. Hourly recordkeeping shall be reported to the Education & Outreach Program Manager on a bi-weekly basis.
Work Schedule:

Five eight-hour days (7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) with occasional weekend and evening events and meetings.
