Role Description The PR Internship (Healthcare Communications) role is a full‑time, on‑site position based in the Washington DC–Baltimore area. Interns support account teams by drafting press materials, including press releases and media pitches, and assisting with the development of strategic communications plans for health care and wellness clients. The role offers hands‑on experience in health care communications, collaboration with cross‑functional team members, and exposure to a wide range of client initiatives.
Overview CURA Strategies is looking for an ambitious, self‑starter to join our team as an intern. Our paid interns are fully integrated members of our team and key players in helping us do great work for our incredible clients.
This isn’t a “get our coffee” internship — interns gain extensive hands‑on experience working on a variety of tasks across multiple accounts.
We are especially interested in candidates with experience and/or strong interest in healthcare communications. Digital marketing or public affairs experience is a plus.
This is a paid position of $17.00/hour. In limited cases, we have adjusted for graduate students with more extensive experience.
Responsibilities Assist with traditional media relations activities, including building media lists and crafting newsworthy pitches
Assist with client social media efforts, including drafting content, creating graphics and monitoring for engagement opportunities
Draft written content, such as newsletters, blog posts, press releases, client presentations and measurement reports
Support strategic communications and public affairs activities across client accounts
Conduct research on healthcare and industry issues to support client work and new business efforts
Provide support for various virtual or in‑person client events
Attend and capture action items from internal and client meetings/conference calls
Participate in new business brainstorms and research
Other projects and duties as requested, directed or assigned
Assist with administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications Has an appetite and drive to always do more
Is thorough and detail‑oriented, particularly with spelling and grammar
Has excellent writing, analytical and oral skills
Has a professional demeanor and is a team player
Works well under pressure in a fast‑paced environment, juggling multiple projects at once while meeting deadlines
Is extremely organized and able to manage time well
Approaches projects with a can‑do mindset, but will ask questions when they’ve exhausted other options
Has a working knowledge of social media strategy for business
Is curious, tech‑savvy and comfortable learning new tools and platforms
Is proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Bonus points if you have: Graphic design experience and working knowledge of the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro)
Government relations and public affairs experience
Experience with digital marketing platforms and tools
Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or similar platforms
