UAS Test Pilot job at Flock Safety. Lafayette, IN.

Opportunity
Flock Safety is seeking an experienced and passionate UAS Test Pilot to advance Drone as First Responder (DFR) programs. The role involves testing hardware, piloting drones, and supporting logistics to enhance DFR capabilities. This is an on‑site position at our West Lafayette facility with up to 25% domestic travel.

Skillset

FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate – required for commercial drone operations.

Knowledge of FAA regulations and safety protocols.

Experience in drone operations, preferably in experimental UAS development, with proficiency in piloting various models.

Experience with drone hardware and software testing, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluation of drone systems.

Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Effective communication – able to convey technical information clearly to stakeholders.

Physical stamina – able to stand and be on your feet for extended periods, lift and transport equipment up to 55 lbs.

Travel and outdoor work – able to travel as required (estimated 25%) and work outdoors over 70% of the time.

Independent and collaborative work in a startup team environment.

Customer‑focused mindset – support internal and external stakeholders effectively.

90‑Day Plan
The First 30 Days

Meet the team and learn safety procedures and flight testing environment.

Review current testing procedures and documentation.

Learn about our equipment, aircraft, and systems.

Demonstrate UAS piloting capabilities and become a confident Pilot in Command with Flock aircraft.

The First 60 Days

Communicate test results to team members and stakeholders.

Apply problem‑solving and risk‑management skills.

Identify needs for professional development and outline improvement plans.

90 Days & Beyond

Contribute to testing write‑ups and generate reports based on long‑term data.

Continuously test and evaluate aircraft following standard procedures.

Interview Process

Initial recruiter chat to discuss background, fit, and expectations.

Hiring manager interview to dive into role, team, and success metrics.

Technical assessment tailored to the role.

Panel interview to hear about past projects and collaboration.

Executive review for broader perspective on company culture.

Salary & Equity
Starting salary ranges from $70,800 to $97,350, plus Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by experience, education, and market conditions.
