Protestant Music Director - $50 per hour - Seymour Johnson AFB, NC

Are you an experienced church musician who can lead worship with confidence and care? Can you play piano or keyboard, direct singers and support both traditional hymns and contemporary worship music?

The role

Seymour Johnson AFB Chapel is seeking a Protestant Music Director to provide music direction and accompaniment for Protestant worship services, rehearsals and special services.

This is a part-time, 1099 contract role. You will help shape the musical life of the Protestant chapel community through skilled playing, thoughtful preparation and calm direction during services.

Key Responsibilities
Provide music direction and accompaniment for weekly worship
Lead at least one rehearsal and one worship service each week
Direct choir or worship team members during rehearsals and services
Play hymns, worship songs, preludes, postludes and other service music
Prepare music for Christmas, Easter and special seasonal services
Arrange music to suit the ability of the team
Coordinate music selections with the Protestant Chaplain
Support memorial, funeral and combined services when required
Ensure equipment is set up, checked, stored and looked after
Follow chapel procedures, copyright rules and confidentiality standards

The person

You will need a Bachelor's degree in music or a related field, and/or at least five years of church music ministry experience.

You should also be able to:

Skillfully play piano or keyboard
Sight-read, arrange and score music
Direct a choir or worship team with confidence
Support Protestant worship styles
Communicate clearly in English
Work professionally in a pluralistic, interfaith environment
Provide suitable references
Complete a live or recorded technical evaluation
Complete the required background check process
