Full Time

This role requires candidates who are currently authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, and C2C arrangements are not accepted. This role is remote.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized, analytical, and strategic

Product Marketing Manager

to lead customer retention, churn mitigation, and lifecycle strategy for a subscription-based product portfolio.

This role will identify customer retention opportunities, develop strategic testing roadmaps, and lead cross-functional initiatives designed to improve subscriber engagement, incremental revenue, and long-term retention. The Product Marketing Manager will use customer behavior, segmentation, lifecycle data, and campaign performance to identify unexpected churn patterns and determine which offers, messages, experiences, or product capabilities should be tested.

This is a marketing strategy role rather than a technical development or technical project management position. The individual will define what the business needs, why it is valuable, how it should be tested, and how success will be measured. Technical, product, digital, and operational teams will determine how the supporting capabilities are built.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in an evolving environment, building structure around ambiguous business challenges, and influencing stakeholders across marketing, product, analytics, operations, digital, and technology teams.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage a strategic roadmap focused on customer engagement, retention, upsell, cross-sell, and churn mitigation.
Identify customer segments and lifecycle points that present opportunities to reduce churn or increase incremental revenue.
Design and launch churn-reduction tests using customer insights, behavioral data, segmentation, and performance trends.
Develop strategies for cancellation, disconnect, downgrade, save, and retention experiences.
Define offer frameworks, treatment strategies, customer value propositions, and testing criteria.
Determine what business or platform capabilities are needed to support retention initiatives.
Communicate strategic objectives, capability expectations, measurement requirements, and business value to product and technical partners.
Partner with analytics teams to develop hypotheses, control groups, testing methodologies, and measurement plans.
Establish success metrics before initiatives launch and evaluate performance against engagement, conversion, revenue, retention, and churn KPIs.
Build business cases and cost-benefit analyses to support proposed initiatives and investments.
Translate high-level annual objectives into tactical roadmaps, priorities, milestones, and work-back schedules.
Lead initiatives across marketing, CRM, analytics, product, digital, operations, governance, and technology teams.
Represent the marketing organization in cross-functional workstreams and provide clear recommendations on strategic decisions.
Maintain regular communication with leadership regarding program performance, priorities, risks, dependencies, and roadblocks.
Exercise sound judgment regarding which decisions can be made independently and which issues require leadership escalation.
Identify internal subject-matter experts, gather the necessary information, and develop recommendations when solutions are not immediately defined.
Manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously while maintaining accountability for deadlines and business outcomes.
Promote automation, personalization, operational efficiency, and scalable customer communication strategies.
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience in customer retention, lifecycle marketing, campaign strategy, product marketing, growth marketing, or a related area.
Experience developing retention or churn-mitigation strategies for a subscription-based business.
Demonstrated experience designing and executing test-and-learn strategies.
Experience using customer behavior, segmentation, campaign results, and lifecycle data to identify opportunities.
Experience developing strategic roadmaps and independently leading cross-functional initiatives.
Proven ability to convert broad business objectives into tactical plans, priorities, and measurable deliverables.
Experience partnering with product, engineering, digital, operations, or IT teams to communicate business and capability needs.
Ability to explain what a solution must accomplish without personally writing technical requirements or performing development work.
Experience creating measurement plans, defining KPIs, and evaluating incremental business value.
Understanding of business-case development and cost-benefit analysis.
Strong written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to communicate strategies, performance results, and roadmap updates to senior leadership.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Proactive, independent, and solution-oriented working style.
Strong judgment, relationship-building skills, and ability to navigate a complex organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with an app-based streaming, digital media, direct-to-consumer, SaaS, fintech, telecommunications, membership, or other recurring-revenue business.
Recent hands-on experience owning churn, retention, subscriber engagement, or incremental-revenue KPIs.
Experience developing or testing cancellation, disconnect, downgrade, save, or retention flows.
Experience creating lifecycle offer frameworks or structured retention-testing programs.
Familiarity with marketing automation, personalization, and customer journey strategies.
Exposure to project-management tools such as Smartsheet, Asana, or similar platforms.
Experience working within a small or lean strategy team where priorities and processes are still being developed.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate is a strategic marketer who can independently investigate business problems, identify opportunities, build recommendations, and move initiatives forward without requiring a predefined playbook. They are comfortable operating within ambiguity and can balance strategic thinking with disciplined execution.

They understand subscription economics and recognize that retention is broader than sending customer communications. They can evaluate the entire subscriber experience, determine which customer or business levers should be tested, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver the capabilities needed to support those strategies.
