Description of Work

This position is located at the Division of Disability Determination Services (DDS) at the Department of Health and Human Services in Raleigh, NC. This agency makes medical entitlement decisions on Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid disability claims. The Program Support Team (PST) serves as the single location for distribution of clerical and adjudicative support tasks to support case processing units and special projects. The PST functions as the standardization of clerical tasks for a more balanced allocation of clerical tasks. Workloads are monitored and adjusted in real time, ensuring equitable distribution of workloads for increased productivity. This unit ensures that flexibility is provided to address peak periods or special projects without disrupting ongoing operations.
The Program Support Supervisor leads a team of Office Assistants staff who perform general or specialized office and adjudicative support functions. The position instructs employees in their assigned roles and provides program and procedural instruction with daily scheduling of tasks/duties to balance the workload. The Program Support Supervisor participates in the recruitment, hiring and development of Office Assistant staff. This position also carries out disciplinary action when needed. Program Support Supervisor creates and maintains Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) manuals for most updated written processes to support clerical tasks and to establish necessary trainings for OA staff. The Program Support Supervisor further manages complex clerical support tasks and resolves problematic issues. This position provides oversight in case processing and fiscal management, quality reviews, receipt and distribution of Return to Sender Mail and customer service deliver to internal and external customers.

About Disability Determination Services

The Division of Disability Determination Services (DDS) makes medical determinations for Social Security and state Medicaid Disability claims. Social Security Disability claims are initially processed at local SSA field offices, and the case is sent to DDS to evaluate disability. DDS is responsible for obtaining medical evidence and making the initial determination on whether a person, or a claimant, is disabled or blind under the law. DDS also processes Medicaid disability claims for the state of North Carolina. Medicaid disability claims can be filed by contacting a county Department of Social Services office https://www.ncdhhs.gov/divisions/social-services/local-dss-directory. Once a Medicaid disability application is received, DDS will develop medical evidence and make a determination on disability using the same protocols as outlined for Social Security Disability benefits.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience, including one year as a lead worker. OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
