About the Role

First United Methodist Church is seeking a creative and organized Marketing & Communications Specialist to lead the church's communications and marketing efforts. This position plays a key role in sharing the church's mission, promoting ministries and events, and creating meaningful connections with members, visitors, and the surrounding community.
The Marketing & Communications Specialist will develop engaging print and digital communications, manage the church's online presence, create visual content, and collaborate with church staff and ministry leaders to communicate effectively across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

Develop and implement communication strategies that promote the mission and ministries of First United Methodist Church.
Create compelling content for digital and print communications, including newsletters, bulletins, email campaigns, social media, and promotional materials.
Coordinate communication plans for church events, seasonal ministries, and special initiatives.
Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels.
Digital Media & Content Creation

Manage and regularly update the church website with current information, events, and ministry opportunities.
Create graphics, photography, videos, and other multimedia content for print and digital platforms.
Develop social media content that informs, inspires, and engages current and prospective members.
Create online registration forms, event pages, and other digital resources as needed.
Creative Design

Design promotional materials including flyers, postcards, banners, signage, worship graphics, and other ministry resources.
Coordinate with outside vendors, printers, and designers when appropriate.
Maintain a consistent visual identity across all church communications.
Worship & Ministry Support

Provide multimedia support and creative consultation for worship services and church ministries.
Assist with online worship and digital engagement opportunities.
Support ministry leaders with communication and promotional needs for events, classes, and programs.
Collaboration & Professional Development

Attend weekly staff meetings and collaborate with ministry leaders to support church-wide communication efforts.
Stay current with marketing trends, digital communication tools, and best practices.
Pursue professional development opportunities that strengthen communication and ministry leadership.
Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field

or

at least one year of relevant professional experience.
Experience creating content for both print and digital communications.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Experience with graphic design software such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience managing social media platforms for an organization or business.
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
Preferred

Experience with website management and basic HTML/CSS.
Photography and videography experience.
Experience with video editing software.
Knowledge of current copyright and licensing requirements for digital and print media.
Familiarity with church communications, nonprofit marketing, or ministry settings.
Experience with livestreaming or multimedia production.
