Marketing and Communications Volunteer for Womanity Portrait Foundation
Womanity Portrait Foundation is a young San Diego nonprofit that uses portrait photography, storytelling, retreats, and healing-centered arts programs to support women impacted by breast cancer. Their Marketing & Communications Volunteers will help them reach more women who may benefit from their programs, strengthen community awareness, and share the stories and impact of their work with potential volunteers, donors, and partners.
This role is an opportunity to use creative and communication skills to support women who are often facing isolation, changes in identity, and the emotional effects of breast cancer.
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with social media planning, writing, scheduling, and content organization
Draft and edit newsletters, website copy, event announcements, and outreach materials
Create simple branded graphics using Canva or similar tools
Photography and video editing
Writing stories, program updates, and blog posts
Media outreach and public relations
Volunteers may also assist with highlighting participant stories, documenting organizational impact, researching outreach opportunities, and preparing materials for community partners
Required Skills/Experience:
Strong written communication and editing skills
Reliable, organized, and able to meet agreed upon deadlines
Comfortable working independently and receiving feedback
Respectful when communicating about breast cancer and personal stories
Familiarity with social media, email marketing, Canva, WordPress, or similar tools is helpful
Commitment to confidentiality, dignity, and responsible storytelling
Desired Skills/Experience:
Experience or interest in nonprofit communications, social media, marketing, public relations, journalism, photography, graphic design, email marketing, WordPress, Canva, fundraising communications, community outreach, women’s health, breast cancer support, arts-based programs, or storytelling is helpful, but not required.
Volunteers who are willing to learn and who care about thoughtful, respectful communication.
Time Commitment:
Please follow the instructions outlined on this website. Approximately 2-4 hours per week for a minimum of three months. Volunteers may occasionally be invited to attend meetings, programs, exhibitions, or community events based on availability. All work can be completed remotely and on a flexible schedule, with occasional opportunities to support programs, exhibitions, or community events in-person.
Onboarding Process:
Volunteers need to participate in a 30-minute introductory interview. Selected volunteers will attend an orientation, review the organization’s communication guidelines, sign a confidentiality agreement, and receive access to the tools and materials needed for their role. Work samples may be requested when relevant, but they are not required for every applicant. The onboarding process will generally take one to two weeks.
