Gananda Central School District is seeking a Public Relations Specialist to enhance district communications, strengthen community engagement, and highlight the accomplishments of our students, staff, and programs. This dynamic role blends strategic communication, content creation, and digital media expertise to showcase district achievements, foster meaningful connections with students, families, staff, and community partners, and support the district's mission. As part of a vibrant school community where everyone belongs and every learner matters, the Public Relations Specialist will help share the stories and successes that define and celebrate Gananda.

Position Schedule: 24-32 hours per week

The Public Relations Specialist will:

Develop, schedule, and monitor content across district communication platforms while maintaining a consistent, positive brand voice aligned with Gananda's mission and vision.

Create clear, engaging written and visual content, including press releases, newsletters, website updates, district announcements, event highlights, social media graphics, infographics, and promotional materials.

Capture and edit high-quality photography and graphics from classrooms, school events, athletics, celebrations, and community activities while ensuring all materials meet district branding standards.

Highlight student achievements, staff excellence, and district initiatives through meaningful content that builds community pride, connection, and shared purpose.

Assist with maintaining district webpages by ensuring information is accurate, accessible, current, and engaging.

Support media relations by coordinating with local news outlets, preparing media materials, and promoting district events and accomplishments.

Attend and document school events, programs, and celebrations, including occasional evening and weekend activities as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Education, Marketing or a related field and one (1) year of full-time paid work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in public relations work or in a position writing, editing, or designing publications.

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field and three (3) years of satisfactory experience as detailed in (1) above; or

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as detailed in (1) above.

Special Requirement for appointment in School Districts: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 190 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
