Freelance Assistant Fashion Designer

I am looking for immediate freelance assistant (or associate) level help in-person Monday-Thursday, remote Friday starting ASAP for 1-3 weeks.

MUST be able to come in-office Mon-Thurs

MUST be proficient in Illustrator

MUST be ok to work independently after receiving project direction

Reporting to: VP of Design

Brand/Product Focus: Children’s & Adults swimwear, sleepwear, & outerwear (Branded, Licensed, and Private Label)

Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan – Fashion District

Assistant Fashion Designer – work with VP of Design and art teams to create presentations and work on product design through the full lifecycle of the garment from initial research to TOPs.Must be able to sketch garments, create impactful presentations, have a strong color/merchandising sense, and good eye for detail.

Key Accountabilities

Sketch garments & maintain CAD library (including trims as needed)

Create presentation decks & ensure they are up to date for all buyer/licensor appointments

Work closely with art team to create licensor submit sheets

Research seasonal trends & help to create mood boards

Ready showroom for all buyer/licensor appointments (sample rigging & catalogue print outs)

Maintain seasonal store bought samples library

Attend sample fittings and help make any necessary sketch updates for the tech team

Work with sales to create & maintain buy sheets with all pertinent sales information

Create & maintain internal lineplan

Education and Experience

1-3 years of Fashion Design experience

College degree (or equivalent professional work experience) required

Skills and Behaviors

Detail oriented

Excellent CAD sketching ability

Strong knowledge of garment construction

Strong sense of color/merchandising

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite

Working knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Teams & Office (PLM a plus)

Strong time management and multi-tasking skills with critical attention to detail

Self motivated - Ability to work independently for certain periods of time *with adequate initial direction provided

Confident, engaging verbal and written communication skills *confident to ask questions

Motivated to work in a high energy environment at the speed of fashion with ever-changing priorities

Ability to meet multiple deadlines *with adequate guidance provided

Ability to absorb and adjust based on feedback

Ability to build and maintain relationships with other departments

The pay range for this position is: $26-35/hour *based on experience
