Job Title: Lead Editor and Translator
Job Purpose
Leads and assigns tasks within the Editing and Translation team under the Vice Presidency of Academic Development at Northbridge University (NU). The Lead supports the Director in training new personnel and is responsible for distributing editing, translation, and learning-resource quality assurance tasks among team members. This role ensures that all deliverables meet established quality standards and provides regular updates to the Director on project status and progress. The Lead may represent the Department Director in meetings or special activities during periods of absence.
Job Description
The Lead Editor and Translator reports directly to the Director of Editing and Translation and is responsible for coordinating and assigning tasks to team members. This role requires a strong understanding of project lifecycles and work schedules within the Vice Presidency of Academic Development at Northbridge University. Familiarity with NU’s curricular and instructional design models is essential. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in applying grammar and spelling rules in both English and Spanish, as well as proficiency in APA style and citation standards for academic content development.
This position demands a high level of commitment, integrity, and leadership to uphold the quality standards of the Department of Editing and Translation and the institution. Experience in team leadership, mentoring, training, or workflow coordination is highly desirable.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate, assign, and monitor editing, translation, and learning-resource quality assurance work based on departmental priorities and directives from the Director.
Provide regular updates to the Director on project status, progress, workload, and quality concerns.
Support the Director in maintaining quality standards by reviewing team outputs and coordinating the resolution of issues involving written instructional content.
Mentor team members and coordinate onboarding, training, and workshops to strengthen editing, translation, and quality assurance skills.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of style guides, templates, and other resources that promote consistency and accuracy.
Assist in designing and implementing strategies, tools, and technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve translation and editing workflows, quality, and cost efficiency.
Help address team-related concerns and facilitate conflict resolution, referring matters to the Director when appropriate.
Collaborate with instructional design, faculty, multimedia, and other departments to support course development, content editing, proofreading, and institutional objectives.
Edit or translate official Northbridge University documents, such as letters, reports, policies, and manuals, as needed.
Maintain current professional knowledge through reading, networking, certifications, professional development, and participation in faculty and institutional training.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Skills and Qualifications
Master’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.
Minimum of three to four years of professional experience in English–Spanish editing and translation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
Strong conceptual thinking and analytical skills.
Experience using computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, such as Phrase.
Working knowledge of artificial intelligence tools that support translation and editing workflows.
Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) is desirable.
Readiness to learn, evaluate, and apply new technologies.
Demonstrated experience in team leadership, mentoring, training, or workflow coordination.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in team-oriented environments.
Adaptability to shifting priorities and deadlines, with effective problem-solving skills.
