Job Overview
Qualcomm is a company of inventors that unlocked 5G, ushering in an age of rapid acceleration in connectivity and new possibilities that will transform industries, create jobs, and enrich lives. But this is just the beginning. It takes inventive minds with diverse skills, backgrounds, and cultures to transform 5G's potential into world-changing technologies and products. This is the Invention Age — and this is where you come in.
The Central Hardware Systems (CHS) PCB CAD team designs cutting-edge printed circuit boards across Qualcomm's most strategic platforms — spanning Mobile, Automotive, Infrastructure, IoT, Compute, and R&D. As a PCB Designer, you will contribute to next‑generation hardware development, working closely with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to deliver high‑quality PCB designs from concept through fabrication.
Role / Skills / Exp
Design and document printed circuit board (PCB) layouts that conform to manufacturing and industry standards and Qualcomm design guidelines, using supplied schematics and electrical/mechanical design constraints
Develop PCB layouts that meet all project goals and requirements for a variety of 5G designs across multiple business units, including R&D, Mobile, Compute, IoT, Infrastructure, and Automotive
Learn and develop proficiency with the PCB CAD tools utilized at Qualcomm:
Siemens/Mentor Xpedition — Design and layout of complex PCBs
Siemens Valor — DFM (Design for Manufacture) analysis and validation of design data packages (Gerber/ODB++) for PCB fabrication
Downstream Technologies Blueprint — creation and release
Evaluate PCB design trade‑offs necessary to meet design requirements and produce high‑quality, cost‑effective boards that meet project schedule objectives
Maintain technical coordination with Engineering and Manufacturing; resolve PCB design issues with fabrication and assembly vendors
Understand and apply PCB technology and process trends to Qualcomm designs
Communicate effectively with project peers and engineering personnel via e‑mail and Teams meetings, including regular status reports and presentation slides
Understand project goals and individual contribution toward those goals
Minimum Qualifications
1+ years of experience using CAD software tools to design PCBs for electronics packaging
Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical constraint drawings
Experience with electronic file exchanges between PCB and mechanical software tools
Basic understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) requirements
Associate's degree in electronics, electrical technology, or a related technical field preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PCB CAD tools such as Siemens Xpedition, Cadence Allegro, PADS, or Altium
Basic understanding of electronic components, digital and analog circuits, and component placement and routing strategies
Familiarity with PCB design practices and industry standards
Knowledge of PCB stack‑up development and controlled impedance requirements
Understanding of PCB via technology types: through-hole, blind, buried, and micro‑via
Knowledge of power distribution strategies in digital and analog designs
Awareness of power and signal integrity design practices and analysis
