Communications Specialist I

The Communications Specialist I supports marketing and communications efforts in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. A significant part of the role is creating social media content to elevate the messaging of our school's impact, including student successes and faculty honors and event and performance coverage. This position will also help to maintain the college's website and event calendars.
Salary: Commensurate

Schedule: Work outside of standard work hours, including covering events on some evenings and weekends to complete assigned duties.
Travel: Travel may be required.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, marketing or a similar degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in creating social media content for an organization outside of personal use.
Training in social media through college coursework.
Writing experience through an organization outside of personal use.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress and Sprout Social.
Proficient in AP (Associated Press) style.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong written and oral communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects.
Ability to work professionally and harmoniously in a service-oriented position.
Self-motivation and ability to manage time efficiently, as well as make quick decisions, with minimal supervision.
Critical thinking skills.
Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external teams.
Proficiency/mastery with social media channels and emerging social media trends.
Proven ability to create content specifically for social media communication.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Responsibilities:
Social media content strategy and collaboration:
Create written content for social media across the college's programs, to include highlighting student and faculty achievements, events and performances, and working with a photographer to coordinate photos and video.
Coordinate social collaborations with other areas of the university and outside entities.
Writing:
Contribute to news and event coverage through stories for the website and social media.
Web maintenance and analytics:
Post events on the college's event calendar and on external calendars.
Contribute to updating the college website, including posting stories, photos and videos and updating pages.
Compile analytics for the website and social media platforms.
Multimedia:
Contribute to the college's multimedia presence through occasional photography/video.
