Description
The Publicity Assistant will report to the two Associate Directors of Publicity for Minotaur Books in the St. Martin’s Publishing Group publicity department. In addition to departmental administrative duties, this position will provide support for publicizing a variety of books and authors, with a focus on crime fiction and similar genre fiction titles. There are also opportunities for eventually handling independent publicity campaigns within the SMPG group.

What you'll do:

Providing administrative support for both Associate Directors of Publicity at Minotaur Books as well as support for the department as a whole

Managing the department's publication tracking spreadsheet: documenting upcoming book release dates, publicity mailings, trade submissions, and critical media milestones

Coordinating media mailings of galleys and finished books

Assisting in writing and distributing compelling press materials and creative pitch letters

Routing publicity materials for approval

Assisting with author book tours, booking travel and maintaining schedules

Assisting in outreach to targeted media

Monitoring book coverage in key media outlets, responding to and fulfilling book requests from media, and tracking bestseller information

Researching media outlets and event venues and updating publicity and tour information databases

Organizing and submitting entries for book awards

Submitting documents to the Accounts Payable department for author and vendor reimbursements

Providing necessary information and documentation for corporate card payments

What you'll bring:

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks from two managers with competing deadlines

Ability to work independently and remotely

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong work ethic, curiosity, and a proactive approach to projects

Creative problem solving

Proficiency with Google Workplace, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and the ability to learn and manage new systems

This role operates under a hybrid model offering the opportunity for partial remote work as well as requiring regular presence at our downtown Manhattan office.

Some previous experience in an office environment is beneficial.

Desirable: Internship at a publishing house, in event planning, or in a public relations capacity is a plus.

Desirable: Ability to attend author events in NY/NJ/CT area

Relevant work experience to match the required skills/knowledge above

Desirable: Internship at a publishing house, literary agency, or public relations organization, or experience in book retail

Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience

The salary for this role is $50,000.
