Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to support the Public Information Officer in developing and executing the departments communications strategy. Responsibilities include managing the departments social media platforms and website, producing and editing video content, creating digital and print communications materials, and assisting with public information and outreach campaigns.

How does it get done?

Collaborates with the Public Information Officer on day-to-day media operations

Generates web and social media content for NMCD in line with NMCD's core values

Works with the PIO in coordinating responses to the general public and media when necessary

Develops proper messaging and Online strategies to communicate effectively

Works with the PIO in publishing public reports and other written content

Who are the customers?

New Mexico Corrections Department

Ideal Candidate
Experience with the following:

2-3 years of social media and media relations

Strong writing and content creation experience

Ability to be flexible and work in high stress situations

Experience developing and implementing communication strategies in a team setting

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of office administration or public relations experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.

Bargaining Unit Position
This position is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
