Graphic Designer & Web/Social Media Coordinator
Reports to: Project Manager or Development Director
Part time: 15-25 hours per week
$33-$35 per hour
*This is an in-office position*
Key Responsibilities: Graphic Designer
Coordinate and manage the generation and updating of visual assets for print and online collateral
Create design concepts to support the organization's communications and marketing objectives (i.e., annual report, fundraising events, services collateral, marketing campaigns, etc.)
Maintain brand guidelines, train and support design contributors throughout the organization, and ensure consistency and adherence to guidelines
Adhere to JMA’s commitment to quality in all print and online publications by engaging in best practices; accept accountability, with colleagues, for accuracy and timeliness
Evaluate performance of print pieces; track results, identify opportunities, provide recommendations and implement plans to achieve strategic organizational goals and objectives with clients
Support client messaging through design work
Work with communications and individual giving managers to tie design to donor engagement messaging and timelines
Design printed materials (brochures, donor cards, organization collateral, campaign letters, annual reports, newsletters)
Various social media channels, understanding how channels work and align with target audience
Other duties as assigned:
Ownership of JMA office announcements (holiday closures and greetings); outreach list management
List pulls: RE, eTap, client databases, MailChimp and Constant Contact
Research audience preferences and discover current trends
Create engaging image and video content
Design social media posts to sustain readers’ curiosity and create buzz around new products/programs/events
Stay up-to-date with changes in all in all social platforms ensuring maximum effectiveness
Suggest new ways to attract prospective clients/interest in client-related posts
Design web sites and update for JMA and JMA clients
Website coding for JMA and JMA clients
Work with content providers to keep sites current and transform information for web audiences; work with content management applications
Collaborate on design projects and provide project management as needed
Participate in strategic communications planning and ensuring that web projects integrate and reflect key communications goals
Participate in the development and maintenance of websites created in various web platforms
Key Responsibilities: Communications
Compose, edit and proof event collateral materials, including but not limited to sponsorship and silent auction solicitation letters, press releases, invitations, programs, PPT and agendas
Create calendars and coordinate regular donor communications, including but not limited to quarterly donor newsletters, email and digital correspondence, annual reports, and gift acknowledgments.
Write and create donor solicitation materials for direct mail, email, and social media in partnership with Communications and Development Managers, and external vendors.
Implement organic and paid social media strategies across social channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
Curate and manage social media calendar
Support day-to-day management of social channels (creating content, posting, monitoring and responding to comments and questions, analyzing and reporting campaign results)
Implement paid social media campaigns, monitoring results and adjusting budgets and strategies as directed
Stay current on social media trends and platforms, bringing new ideas and recommendations on how to further enhance clients’ social presence
Experience/Qualifications:
BA/BS/BFA or equivalent combination of education and experience in graphic design-related discipline. 1-2 years of experience demonstrating increasing responsibility will be looked upon favorably. Must be able to present portfolio of work (hard copy or online portfolio acceptable).
Proficiency and demonstrable experience with the full Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, etc., – CS6 or Creative Cloud) as well as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint). Experience with HTML, CSS, jQuery and a variety of website platforms and content management systems (CMS) not required but will be looked upon favorably. Primary workstation will be a Mac.Experience with print and digital design, layout, usability standards, video and photo editing preferred. Experience in Mail Chimp and Constant Contact preferred.
This position requires creativity, interpersonal communications skills, competency in basic grammar, punctuation and proof-reading skills, analytical thinking, and strong organizational skills and attention to detail. It also requires the ability to work with teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines.
Individual must have a passion for keeping current on graphic design developments, new technologies and market trends.
Other Qualifications:
Development experience working with nonprofit organization(s); private and public sector, grant writing/fundraising experience preferred
Self-starter with strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and demonstrated ability to be flexible in work assignments
Organizational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, maintain data maintenance systems, and meet multiple deadlines
Excellent writing/editing/drafting skills, research and information compilation skills
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with teams
Excellent data and computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, especially excel
Expertise in multiple social media platforms
In-depth knowledge of SEO, keyword research
Ability to deliver creative content (image and video)
Familiarity with online marketing strategies and marketing channels
Ability to grasp future trends in digital technologies and act proactively
Multitasking and analytical skills
Bonuses are awarded to staff based on extraordinary work output, bringing in new clients and a recommendation from a manager. Additionally, awards of more ESST/PTO are/can be given in addition to or instead of a cash bonus.
Employee Safe and Sick Time (ESST) & Paid Time Off (PTO)– ESST/PTO will begin accruing upon hire. All employees will earn ESST/PTO at a rate of 0.0909 per hour worked. This equates to earning 1 hour of ESST/PTO for every 11 hours worked.
