Environment Artist Job at Prazzle Arts in New York

In partnership with the New York State Canal Corporation, the Erie Canal Museum is seeking two Erie Canal Artists-in-Residence for a one-year residency exploring the New York State Canal System, including the historic Erie Canal. While all artists are encouraged to apply, the Museum is specifically seeking artists with ancestral ties to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and/or Mohican Nation, and artists who live or work in New York State Canal communities.
The residencies center on a year-long creative journey into the Canal's physical, environmental, social conditions and history. The artists will engage directly with the Canal and adjacent Canalway Trails, Canal Corp. and Museum staff, Canal facilities, and Canal communities and visitors. Applicants will propose a specific visual project that addresses the Canal directly and can be exhibited in a gallery setting, considering a fuller account of its past, present, and future across the system's 524 miles of navigable waterways and 365 miles of multi-use trails. Two artists will be selected, each receiving a $10,000 stipend paid in quarterly installments, with the Canal Corp. facilitating access to staff and facilities throughout the process.
Residency period for 2027 runs from January to December, with applications due September 6, 2026.

Artists must be (18) eighteen years of age or older
Artists may not be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis
Special consideration will be given to artists with ancestral ties to the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and/or Mohican Nation
Special consideration will be given to artists who have lived or worked in Canal communities
Only individual artists or artist collectives may apply; artists representing non-profit and forprofit organizations may not apply
For artists applying as a collective, only one $10,000 stipend will be awarded to the group
