This role blends media relations, digital communications and multimedia storytelling. The Public Affairs Specialist supports California Farm Bureau's public affairs and communications efforts through media relations, social media management, podcast coordination and content creation. Working under the direction of the Managing Director of Public Affairs and Communications, this position helps execute communications strategies, manage media inquiries, create multimedia content and help maintain CAFB's presence in alignment of priority issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Relations & Public Affairs Communications

Respond to media inquiries and direct requests to appropriate staff and leadership.

Assist with development and distribution of press releases, statements and media advisories.

Coordinate interviews and media opportunities.

Develop relevant and topical talking points pertaining to issues.

Track and report on media coverage.

Assist with development of talking points, background materials and communications resources.

Digital Content & Multimedia Production

Create graphics, short-form videos, photography and multimedia content.

Support content and cross-functional requests that support organizational priorities.

Podcast Coordination

Maintain podcast production schedules and editorial calendars.

Coordinate guests, recording logistics and episode planning.

Work with departments to identify topics that support organizational priorities and messaging.

Coordinate with outside production vendors as needed.

Support promotion of podcast episodes through digital channels.

Project Coordination & Administrative Support

Track deadlines, projects and communications deliverables.

Organize shared files and digital assets.

Support communications needs associated with California Farm Bureau programs, campaigns and events.

Assist the communications team with special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or related field, or equivalent experience

3-5 years of experience in communications, media relations, journalism, marketing, public affairs or digital communications

Experience creating social media, video and graphic content

Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools

Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills

Strong organizational and project management skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Experience with podcast production or multimedia storytelling preferred

Knowledge of California agriculture and public policy preferred

Must be willing to travel occasionally, including overnight travel

Salary Range: $65,000 to 70,000 per year

Hybrid work schedule: Ability to work remote evaluated after completion of 90 days of employment
