Live Event Technician (AV and Production)

SYNC Communications | Knoxville, TN | Full-time, on-site | $36,000 to $40,000 depending on experience | Immediate hire

Local candidates only. We are hiring immediately and do not offer relocation, so you need to be in the Knoxville area already.

Our crew works in rooms full of executives, so how we carry ourselves in front of a client counts as much as how the show looks. We want someone with real hands‑on reps in live production who loves getting gear out and learning what it can do, and who does not need a task list to stay busy.

Who we are
SYNC Communications is a creative communications company in Knoxville. Video production and live events, run by the same people. Our clients are national corporate brands, regional utilities and nonprofits, and they expect a high finish on everything they put in front of a room. One week we are building a general session with an LED wall, truss and a multi camera package. The next week we are shooting a brand video. Our shop is in west Knoxville, most shows are within an hour of it, and you will be home most nights.

This is corporate work, and we love it
Our rooms are corporate meetings, all hands meetings, training programs and awards dinners. The audience is a company's own people and the stakes are real: the CEO's biggest talk of the year, the night a nonprofit raises most of its annual budget. When it lands, everybody in that room feels it, and we built the thing that made it land.

We love our clients. We have worked with some of them for years and we learn a lot from them. We work closely enough with their teams to be treated as part of them, and that access is the whole asset. So appearance, language and attitude carry the same weight here as technical skill. We learn our clients' vocabulary and what their brand will and will not allow. Problems get solved quietly instead of in front of the room. Customer service is as much of the job as the gear is, and the best compliment we get is a client asking for the same crew next year.

None of this is rock and roll and we are fine with that. Good people come to us from touring and the skills transfer directly, but the room is different. What you get instead is a new problem every week, real budgets, gear you will be glad to get your hands on, and clients who notice when you do it well. If a corporate environment sounds boring to you, this is the wrong place.

The work

Load-in and load-out: truss and rigging, drape, motors, LED walls, projection, audio, lighting, cable

Building the room off a floor plan, then running a show position: audio mix, lighting, switching or playback

Working with client contacts on site: presenter files, run of show changes, last minute requests

Shop and gear: pull lists, cases packed and labeled, cable tested, inventory tracked

Venue and vendor coordination, plus truck days (16 or 26 foot box truck, no CDL required)

Owning the live events calendar and crew call times

Live events is your primary lane, but SYNC has no dedicated roles. Expect video shoots, running camera, helping in post and prepping gear on slower weeks. We spell that out so you know what you are stepping into.

What you would learn

Audio: consoles, mixing speech and playback for a live room, gain structure, wireless and IEM coordination, comms

Lighting and video: DMX and cue building, LED walls and processing, projection mapping, switching, multi camera, playback

Rigging: truss, motors, drape, ground support, load math and safe practice

The business: floor plans, vendor quoting, gear lists, crew scheduling, and how each client expects to be treated

What we need

You can hold your own with a client contact and in a room with senior executives

A clean, professional appearance on client days. Black on show days, nothing with a logo on it

One to four years of hands‑on live production or AV experience is the sweet spot, wherever you got it. Less is fine if you are good. More is fine if you are still flexible about how the work gets done

Signal flow, and real comfort in at least one of audio, lighting, video or rigging. The rest gets built on the job

Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, and willing to drive a 26 foot box truck into a downtown dock

Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, work a 12 hour show day, and be available for early call times, late strikes, occasional weekends and occasional overnights

What we care about more than the resume

You read a room, and you never talk about clients with contempt

Ours will be a different way of doing things than you learned somewhere else, and that is interesting to you rather than annoying

You would rather read the manual than wait for somebody to show you

Given an open day, you find the thing that needs doing

Pay and hours
$36,000 to $40,000 depending on experience, with a written 90 day review to revisit the number. Event weeks run past forty hours. Slower weeks do not. We are hiring a technician now, and the intent is for this to grow into the person who owns our live events calendar, our gear and our crew. How fast that happens is up to you.
