Beeson Music Coordinator The Beeson Music Coordinator oversees the planning, preparation, and execution of Beeson Divinity School's weekly community worship services. Working closely with the Dean, Associate Dean, guest and faculty preachers, worship leaders, students, and staff, this position ensures that chapel services are thoughtfully planned, theologically grounded, administratively organized, and reflective of the diverse Christian traditions represented within the Beeson community. The Beeson Music Coordinator serves as the primary administrator for worship planning and logistics, coordinating all liturgical, musical, and participant elements necessary for weekly chapel services and special worship events throughout the academic year.
Job Duties Worship Planning and Coordination
Coordinate all aspects of weekly chapel services and special worship gatherings.
Work with faculty, guest preachers, worship leaders, and administrative staff to develop worship services that support the spiritual formation and mission of Beeson Divinity School.
Ensure services appropriately reflect the denominational traditions and liturgical practices represented by scheduled preachers and special events.
Collaborate with designated worship leadership personnel regarding service themes, special music opportunities, and worship styles for each semester.
Maintain and update semester-long worship planning schedules and service planning documents.
Utilize Planning Center and other scheduling platforms to organize service details, musicians, participants, and worship resources.
Liturgical and Service Development
Prepare weekly Orders of Worship for all chapel services.
Coordinate service elements, including: Presiders
Calls to Worship
Invocations
Scripture Readers
Prayer Leaders
Additional liturgical readings and responses
Sermon information
Benedictions
Ensure worship services are consistent with denominational and ecclesial requirements where applicable.
Incorporate additional worship elements such as: Confession and Assurance of Pardon
Apostles' Creed
Community Covenant Renewal
Responsive Litanies
Seasonal or tradition-specific prayers and collects
Coordinate front cover artwork and worship materials with appropriate administrative approval.
Music and Worship Leadership Coordination
Serve as liaison between preachers, worship leaders, musicians, and worship planning staff.
Coordinate music selection in consultation with preachers and worship leaders.
Schedule musicians, vocalists, and special guests from both the Samford University and Birmingham communities.
Ensure proper licensing, copyright compliance, and CCLI documentation for all printed and projected music.
Provide worship materials and service information to musicians and worship leaders in advance of services.
Participant Recruitment and Communication
Recruit and schedule students, faculty, and staff to serve in worship leadership roles.
Maintain balanced participation opportunities across the Beeson community.
Communicate service assignments, expectations, and instructions to all worship participants.
Coordinate with faculty and administrative offices to obtain preacher biographies, photographs, and related materials.
Serve as the primary point of contact for worship-related communications throughout the planning process.
Weekly Worship Administration
Manage the weekly chapel planning timeline, including: Final preacher review of the Order of Worship
Administrative approvals
Distribution of worship materials and instructions.
Chapel participant communication
Printing and assembly of Orders of Worship
Coordinate details for pre-service prayer gatherings and worship rehearsals.
Prepare and distribute worship documents for faculty, staff, media personnel, and service participants.
Ensure all chapel-related materials are completed and distributed according to established deadlines.
Special Events and Chapel Support
Assist in planning worship services connected to conferences, lectureships, convocations, preaching events, and other institutional gatherings.
Coordinate special liturgical and musical arrangements for significant events throughout the academic year.
Support guest speakers by providing worship information, schedules, and logistical assistance.
Collaborate with campus and community partners to enhance worship offerings and special services.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in theology, ministry, church music, worship studies, or a related field.
Demonstrated understanding of Christian worship traditions, liturgy, and ecclesial practices.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and church planning software platforms.
Commitment to the mission and theological vision of Beeson Divinity School and Samford University.
Preferred Qualifications Experience planning worship services in a church, seminary, or higher education setting.
Familiarity with Planning Center and worship scheduling software.
Knowledge of worship music administration, copyright compliance, and CCLI licensing.
Experience working across multiple Christian denominations and traditions.
