Video Journalist

Longwell Partners · Washington, DC, USA · Remote ·

Pay:
Up to $28.85/hr
Job type:
Full Time

Longwell Partners is a full-service, pro-democracy communications firm based in Washington, DC. We specialize in high-profile political projects—including The Bulwark, Home of the Brave, and Republican Voters Against Trump—and we're looking for a Video Journalist to find, report, shoot, and edit compelling video content that advances our pro-democracy mission.
If you follow politics closely, are comfortable in front of a camera, and can take a story from idea to finished video, we want to hear from you.
About the Role You’ll identify stories worth telling, report them out, shoot them, and edit them into polished content for social media, digital platforms, and beyond. You own the process from start to finish. You’ll work alongside a small video team, but you’ll be expected to generate your own story ideas and execute them independently.
A major focus of this role will be covering corruption in American politics: the people, the money, and the scandals that aren’t breaking through in today's information environment. You’ll help change that. The ideal candidate has sharp political instincts, strong on-camera presence, a creative eye for new approaches to digital storytelling, and the technical skills to bring them to life.
Your Responsibilities Monitor the political news cycle to identify stories and opportunities with strong video potential.
Report, shoot, and edit video across formats, including rapid-response clips, field reporting, interviews, and longer produced pieces.
Appear on camera as needed, including delivering to-camera reporting, conducting on-screen interviews and presenting findings directly to audiences.
Shape stories through editing, with strong pacing, clean audio and clear narrative structure.
Work with our communications and social media teams to adapt and distribute content across platforms, formats, and aspect ratios.
Manage footage, project files, and assets with clear organization.
What We're Looking For A strong reel or portfolio that shows you can take a story from idea through final cut. Your reel will tell us more than your resume.
Comfort and confidence on camera; you can report to lens, conduct interviews on screen, and present yourself and your subjects well.
High proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and familiarity with After Effects and Photoshop.
Strong skills in field videography, including lighting, framing, composition and building interview setups.
Understanding of audio recording and the ability to troubleshoot and clean audio in the field and in post.
Sharp political instincts and a solid grasp of the current political landscape; you follow the news and know what matters.
Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality and to manage multiple projects at once.
Ability to be in the office (downtown DC) five days a week. This is not a remote or hybrid opportunity.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Experience with motion graphics, color correction and animation, including using graphics to illustrate complex ideas.
Background in political media, journalism or advocacy communications.
Familiarity with how video performs differently across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X.
Why Join Us? Salary range: $60,000 – $105,000, commensurate with experience
401(k) matching program
100% covered medical insurance
Metro-accessible, downtown DC location
Opportunities to learn, innovate, and advance within a mission-driven, high-performance team
