Director of Engineering & Design - Tallahassee Fl - Direct Hire
We’re looking for an experienced engineering leader to take ownership of the engineering and design function for a growing residential solutions business.
This person will report directly to the CEO and lead a small, experienced engineering team. You’ll have two direct reports: one Mechanical Engineer and one Electrical Engineer , with roughly 25 years of experience between them.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You won’t just be managing people. You’ll be responsible for making sure the engineering work is technically sound, properly documented, and delivered on time.
What you’ll own
- Lead and manage the engineering and design function
- Directly manage two engineers across mechanical and electrical disciplines
- Review and sign off on engineering documents, drawings, designs, and technical work
- Establish engineering standards, processes, and best practices
- Provide technical direction and make final engineering decisions
- Oversee designs for both existing residential structures and new construction
- Work with the engineering team to develop practical solutions for unique residential applications
- Review designs for quality, safety, manufacturability, and code compliance
- Work directly with the CEO on engineering strategy, priorities, and business needs
- Help determine when designs need to be modified, redesigned, or approached differently
- Act as the final technical voice within the organization
What we’re looking for
- 10+ years of engineering experience, with significant design responsibility
- Previous engineering leadership or management experience
- Strong mechanical engineering/design background
- Experience working across both mechanical and electrical engineering functions
- Experience reviewing and approving engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Ability to take ownership of an engineering function rather than simply manage projects
- Strong understanding of engineering standards, codes, and design practices
- Experience with residential, building, construction, architectural, structural, MEP, or similar applications is highly preferred
