Job Description: Summary

The American University Career Center is seeking a creative and skilled graduate student to serve as a Media & Communications Graduate Assistant (Videographer). This position will support the AU Career Center's storytelling and student engagement efforts by creating compelling video content that highlights student experiences, employer partnerships, career resources, events, and experiential learning opportunities. The graduate assistant will focus on producing podcasts, interviews, and creative digital content for social media, websites, and other digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of camera operation, lighting, audio recording, video editing, and digital asset management. They should be eager to collaborate, receptive to feedback, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Essential Functions

Film and edit short-form and long-form video content for social media, websites, digital platforms, and marketing campaigns.
Produce "Day in the Life" videos, internship and study abroad features, student success stories, and podcast-style interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and community partners.
Capture photo and video content at AU Career Center events, workshops, career fairs, employer programs, and special initiatives.
Collaborate with AU Career Center staff to develop creative concepts, storyboards, and content strategies.
Create captions, graphics, and subtitles to ensure accessibility and audience engagement.
Organize, archive, and maintain video files and other digital media assets.
Assist with equipment setup, media organization, and content production workflows.
Required Education and Experience

Must be a current American University graduate student.
Experience with video production, filming, and editing.
Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects; willingness to learn and adapt to additional Adobe Creative Cloud applications or similar software used in daily production.
Strong storytelling, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Must reside in DC, Maryland, or Virginia during period of employment.
Preferred Education and Experience

Portfolio or work samples demonstrating video production and editing skills are preferred.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices for digital media.
Creative mindset with strong visual storytelling skills.
Ability to work collaboratively, accept constructive feedback, and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Candidates must be available to begin working during the first week of the Fall 2026 semester.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Part-time. 15 - 17 hours per week.
Salary Range

$20.00 - $21.00 per hour.
Location

Must reside in DC, Maryland, or Virginia during period of employment.
