Job Purpose: To serve as a key member of the Marketing team by:
Leading digital storytelling strategy to grow engagement, awareness, and impact
Serving as a primary video storyteller for San Diego Rescue Mission
Using performance insights to continually strengthen digital content
Representing our Mission, Vision, and Values
Growing as a follower of Jesus Christ and spiritual leader
Position Profile The Digital Content Strategist is a storyteller, videographer, and strategic thinker responsible for bringing the stories of San Diego Rescue Mission to life across digital platforms. This role identifies and captures compelling stories that showcase transformation, impact, dignity, and hope while helping shape the organization’s broader digital content strategy.
Video production is a core function of this position. The Digital Content Strategist regularly works behind the camera and in the field, owning short-form video from concept through final delivery, including story development, filming, interviews, editing, and platform optimization. This role should be equally comfortable capturing an unscripted moment, conducting a thoughtful interview, or developing a recurring content series. Success requires a strong creative eye, excellent storytelling instincts, hands‑on production skills, and the ability to recognize a great story before someone has to assign it.
Essential Functions Serve as a Member of the Marketing Team Collaborate to execute strategic, creative campaigns
Support fundraising and cultivation goals through compelling digital content
Help achieve department revenue goals through engaging storytelling
Ensure on time delivery of assets to meet campaign launch timelines
Ensure all storytelling respects the dignity, privacy, and experiences of the people we serve (through policy reinforcement).
Video Storytelling & Production Regularly film on location across SDRM programs, events, facilities, and activities.
Own short-form video production from concept through final delivery, including story development, filming, audio, lighting, editing, color correction, and platform optimization
Conduct and capture compelling interviews with guests, alumni, staff, donors, volunteers, and community partners
Produce a consistent pipeline of Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, testimonials, event recaps, behind-the-scenes content, and campaign storytelling
Maintain organized footage and help build a reusable library of high-quality media assets
Ensure all storytelling respects the dignity, privacy, and experiences of the people we serve
Digital Content Strategy Turn SDRM’s marketing strategy into digital content that grows reach and engagement
Lead creative direction and develop original, story-driven content across Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and emerging formats
Write compelling hooks, headlines, captions, and calls to action
Ensure content aligns with SDRM’s brand, campaign priorities, and organizational voice
Use platform trends and performance insights to continually strengthen content and storytelling
Events and On-Site Content Capture high-quality video content at SDRM events, programs, outreach activities, and other organizational moments
Develop pre-event, live-event, and post-event content plans
Produce same-day or next-day event recap videos, Reels, photography, and other visual assets
Identify opportunities at events to capture testimonials, interviews, donor stories, and evergreen content
Continue to grow as a follower of Jesus Christ and Spiritual Leader Spending time daily in the Word and prayer

QualificationsRequirements Education Bachelor’s degree in: Photography, Film/Video Production, Communications, Digital Media, Digital Marketing Journalism or related field
Equivalent professional experience and a strong portfolio may be considered in place of a degree
Must provide portfolio showcasing video projects.
Experience 2–3+ years of professional digital content creation, videography, video editing, or related experience
Demonstrated success producing engaging short-form video for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts
Strong portfolio or video reel demonstrating professional videography, editing, interview, documentary, human-interest, or social-first storytelling required
Experience developing content specifically for digital and social audiences
Nonprofit, faith-based, human services, recovery, or cause-driven storytelling experience is a plus
Skills & Abilities Creative thinker with strong visual storytelling instincts
Savvy digital marketer with a knack for storytelling
Excellent writing and verbal communication
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products and PC platforms
Self-starter with strong project management and attention to detail
Team player with a positive attitude and adaptability
Excellent time management, adaptability, judgement and decision-making
Technical Skills Strong proficiency operating DSLR or mirrorless camera systems
Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable professional video editing software
Strong understanding of composition, lighting, audio capture, interviewing, and visual storytelling
Skilled in editing, post-production, captioning, formatting, and publishing content across digital platforms
Working knowledge of photography and photo editing
Understanding of social media analytics and content performance measurement
Environment & Expectations Some evening or weekend work may be required
Travel locally as needed for events and content collection
Must be comfortable working in environments with vulnerable populations
Must maintain confidentiality and represent SDRM with integrity
Special License / Certification: None
Travel / Transportation: The incumbent must travel on a regular (or periodic) basis, as the job requires. The incumbent must have reliable transportation (public transportation may be acceptable depending on the purpose of travel). If the incumbent receives authorization to use a Mission vehicle to perform duties, he or she must present a current California driver’s license and a good driving record to be placed on the Mission’s insurance policy.
Managerial and Responsibility The incumbent has no supervision of paid staff initially but will assume supervisory responsibility as our organization expands.
