Mothers Outreach Network (MON) advances racial justice and economic equity for Black mothers navigating the family policing system through liberatory legal assistance, guaranteed income advocacy, and mother-led policy work.
Position Overview
The Senior Communications Manager owns MON's external communications - voice, content, and platform presence - end to end. This role writes and produces everything MON needs to speak externally: social media content, campaign materials, press-adjacent writing, and donor-facing communications including solicitations and stewardship messages. Reporting to the Executive Director, this is a hands-on production role for an experienced communicator ready to write across every format MON needs, with room to grow into broader fundraising communications strategy over time.
Core Responsibilities
Plan, write, and post content across MON's social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky) on a consistent daily and weekly cadence
Draft all external communications - campaign content, newsletters, advocacy materials, event promotion - in MON's liberatory voice and brand standard
Write donor-facing communications, including solicitation appeals and stewardship emails, in coordination with the Executive Director
Maintain and execute a content calendar aligned to MON's advocacy campaigns, coalition work, and events
Support press-adjacent writing, including talking points, statements, and testimony-related content as needed
Maintain brand consistency across all platforms and materials
Track content performance and report on engagement and reach
Qualifications
Must Have
5-7 years of professional communications experience, with demonstrated ownership of social media and written content production
Strong writing ability across formats - social copy, email, advocacy materials
Deep commitment to racial justice and the dignity of Black mothers and families
Comfort working independently and producing high-volume content with minimal support staff
Preferred
Experience writing donor communications or fundraising appeals
Experience with Mailchimp, Canva, and WordPress
Familiarity with DC's Black community and advocacy ecosystem
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $85,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience
Full-time, in-person position - no hybrid or remote option
