Position Purpose / Job Summary
The Marketing & Business Director (MBD) is responsible for strategically growing SLOCA's income across multiple channels, including business revenue, and for driving marketing efforts to increase inquiries. This includes collaborating with management teams at the thrift store, bookstore, and online math video subscription team to increase revenue, and managing the creative team to develop, lead, and oversee marketing initiatives that drive enrollment growth.

Reports to the Chief Advancement Officer

Oversees our Wisdom Wonder Project (WWP) Customer Service representative and Web master

Oversees our thrift store manager

Oversees our school store manager and supports the curriculum point person

Oversees the Graphic Designer, Marketing Manager, and the Videography Designer

Works closely alongside Admissions and Development teams to ensure cohesive messaging

Education and Experience

Demonstrated possession of wisdom and values that align well with the mission and vision of SLO Classical Academy.

Required:

3+ years of marketing experience

6+ years of business building, management, and finance experience

4+ years of managing people and/or project management

An excellent eye for design and alignment with the SLOCA brand

Demonstrated strong people skills

Technology - highly computer literate and quick tech study; knowledgeable with WordPress as well as automated email marketing systems preferred

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills

Knowledgeable concerning the latest developments in digital marketing communications

Familiarity with Classical Education or Singapore Math is a bonus

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and oversee a full marketing plan that accurately reflects SLOCA’s culture, image, mission, and vision and reaches SLOCA enrollment goals.

Lead enrollment marketing through word‑of‑mouth campaigns, digital marketing, print‑based marketing, social media, and event‑based marketing.

Develop and implement effective campaigns through the above channels that align with the marketing plan and report on the effectiveness on inquiry growth.

Coordinate all publications and advertisements, including recruitment pieces, short videos, targeted emails, invitations to special events, parent meeting information, and other communication materials.

Develop and manage the marketing and advertising budget, reporting on ROI’s of each investment to the ELT and finance team.

Create content for and maintain all social media channels for the school (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), updating regularly with consistent messaging that aligns with the school’s mission

Work closely with the Director of Admissions to create marketing and communications strategies that promote and enhance recruitment.

Business Revenue Growth

Lead growth strategy and execution for all business income channels, including: Fred and Betty’s Thrift Store, The Den bookstore, and WWP online math subscription program.

Create and oversee growth plans for each revenue stream with clear goals and metrics

Manage business budgets, financial targets, and performance reporting

Track KPI’s, customer data, and feedback to inform decisions

Oversee platform integrations for digital marketing success

Collaborate with curriculum point person and store manager to align offerings with family needs and curriculum requirements

Communication

Ensure a smooth, effective school‑wide communication process to reduce repetition and ensure clear, accurate communication.

Prepare quarterly reports for the finance team for areas overseen.

Oversee and monitor the school’s brand guides, ensuring publications adhere to the organization’s branding and messaging guidelines.

Manage media relations by identifying newsworthy events, writing press releases, and cultivating strong collaborative partnerships with local media.

Staff Development and Support; Team

Lead and develop marketing, communications, and business team members.

Shared Responsibilities as Broader Lead Team Member
The Broader Leadership Team (BLT) collectively brings our mission and vision to life, together and in each person’s area of oversight. They are ambassadors for SLOCA. The BLT is the #1 team for its members. They are a unified team of leaders overseeing various aspects of the organization. They respect, encourage, support, and recognize the various roles on the team. They present as one unified leadership team and have each other’s backs. If this team is not well‑connected, it puts the entire organization at risk.

Holding one another accountable

Embracing and owning SLOCA ELT and BLT decisions (for the good of the organization) and representing the direction and decisions on their teams, moving them towards understanding and action

Participating in decisions as appropriate, primarily related to one’s area of oversight and in line with mission and vision

Providing hospitality to coworkers, parents, and students

Growing one’s team and/or area of oversight as aligned with the mission and vision

Support team members and participate in other teams/activities/goals as needed

Physical Demands

Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a limited basis. Able to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods of time and move about campuses easily. Able to work irregular hours if needed for meetings, etc.
