POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Public Relations Intern supports national and local media relations campaigns, storytelling and brand visibility efforts to raise awareness of the Arthritis Foundation’s mission and impact. The internship provides hands‑on experience in nonprofit communications, public relations and media relations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

Write press materials (press releases, media pitches, media alerts) and news articles for website
Assist with media outreach
Track media coverage using free online tools and compile campaign results reports
Conduct research needed to implement communications strategies
Assist with media interview coordination for volunteer and staff spokespeople
Assist with media outreach in key Arthritis Foundation markets
Participate in communications planning meetings

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

The internship is open to current students enrolled in a 4-year university pursuing a degree or post-graduate degree in one of the following disciplines: Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communications, Social Media, or Media Relations.

Additional Qualifications

Undergraduate student or recent graduate in communications, journalism, public relations or public health
Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and in teams
Interest in nonprofit communications and public relations
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Interest in nonprofit communications
Organizational and research abilities
Ability to work remotely and manage deadlines
