Responsibilities Ensuring posts go out consistently and without error
Researching, editing and reviewing content and copy
Monitoring social media and news for trends and rapid response moments
Ensuring content meets ADA standards for accessibility
Managing social media response during severe weather and other crisis events
This employee reports directly to the Deputy Director of Marketing and Creative Services and interacts with department leadership, as well as the Governor's Office.
It is crucial that this employee understands and supports the goals and commitments of NCDOT so they can be effectively communicated internally and externally.
The employee must have a strong knowledge of the department's operations and an ability to synthesize complex information so it can be understood by a variety of audiences.
They need to have a natural ability to build and maintain relationships, online and off, while being a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary (e.g., content development, creation and editing of content, online reputation management).
This position also requires the ability to balance multiple responsibilities under a tight deadline and to maintain professional working relationships with individuals both within and outside the department.
Typical working hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday; however, evenings and weekends may be required depending on crisis and emergency situations.
This position is also be responsible for providing day-to-day supervision, guidance and performance management for assigned social media team member(s), including delegating assignments, reviewing work, setting priorities and ensuring content aligns with the department’s mission and brand standards.
Contract and Working Hours Typical working hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday; however, evenings and weekends may be required depending on crisis and emergency situations.
Salary Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC16 $57,983 - $101,470
Preferred Qualifications Experience designing and implementing successful social media campaigns resulting in online growth and increased engagement
Strong knowledge of the department's operations and an ability to synthesize complex information so it can be understood by a variety of audiences
Strong knowledge of social media best practices by platform, especially Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube
Demonstrated ability to identify potential negative trends or crisis situations and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues
Strong knowledge of effective use of social media management tools for multiple platforms, such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite
Experience using photo and video editing software
Experience managing the work of others
Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media, journalism, English, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
