Communications Specialist, PR & Organic Social
Denver • Marketing

Reports to: Sr Manager, PR Communications

Team: Marketing

Employment type: FTE

About the role
AI made code abundant. The people who love to build are building more than ever, and the bottleneck in shipping software is no longer writing it. CloudBees sits in the middle of that shift, and we have stories to tell that nobody else can: about builders, about what it takes to ship when code is cheap, about why craft still matters when machines can type.

We're hiring the person who tells those stories.

Our audience is developers, platform engineers, and the leaders who buy for them. They tune out anything that feels like a pitch, and they'll read something that genuinely interests them. Your job is to make CloudBees interesting everywhere builders are: LinkedIn and X every day, and with a deliberate, growing presence on Reddit, Hacker News, Discord, YouTube, and whatever channel matters next. You will do it in the moments that count, including launches, announcements, and industry news breaking in real time.

Each channel has its own physics. What works on LinkedIn dies on Reddit. You know this instinctively, and you understand that on developer-native channels credibility is earned by participating, not by broadcasting.

A content calendar is table stakes. The harder part of this job is taste: knowing which story to tell, how to tell it so an engineer shares it without irony, and which trends a B2B company should join versus watch from a respectful distance. You will start with imperfect briefs, ask the right questions, make smart calls, and push the work until it is great, because a good idea isn't finished until the execution is.

You will work from our company and brand narrative, but we are not looking for someone to follow a playbook or wait for instructions. We want someone who understands what we are trying to accomplish, brings a point of view on how to get there, and speaks up when there is a more creative or effective way to do it.

We expect you to be fluent with AI and curious about how it makes you better at your craft. Use it to research faster, explore more directions, sharpen your thinking, and eliminate low-value work. The ideas, the point of view, and the taste behind the work still need to be unmistakably yours.

What you'll own
Organic social

Growing our organic presence across the social channels where developers spend time: LinkedIn and X daily, with a deliberate footprint on Reddit, Hacker News, Discord, YouTube, and emerging platforms, adapting voice to each and using judgment about when the brand should speak and when it should stay quiet

Telling stories that make builders care: mine our engineers, customers, and community for narratives worth telling, then land them in whatever format the moment calls for, whether that is a thread, a video, a post, or a multi-week launch arc

Turning launches and company moments into stories with an angle, a sequence, and content people actually share, working alongside product marketing and demand generation

Engaging on community-first channels as a genuine participant rather than a marketer, and earning the credibility that lets a brand engage there at all

Producing multimedia content for a technical audience: video, graphics, carousels, quote cards, and event clips, with agency support and with your own hands when speed matters

Monitoring trends and conversations, and engaging in them on behalf of the brand, same day when the moment is time-sensitive

Recommending where we play and where we don't: building the channel strategy for social, making the case for new channels with data, and sunsetting the ones that aren't earning their keep

Reporting on engagement rate, impressions, and follower growth as core metrics, with commentary on what drove the numbers

Handling day-to-day channel administration, including profile hygiene, access and permissions, brand consistency, and community guidelines

Managing the calendar, approvals, tagging taxonomy, dashboards, and user onboarding in Sprout Social

Running and scaling our employee advocacy motion so our own people amplify the work

Coordinating with demand generation so organic and paid social reinforce rather than duplicate each other

Public relations

Knowing our corporate narrative and finding the media moments that reinforce it: which news cycles to enter, which angles carry our message, and which coverage isn't worth chasing

Managing day-to-day media operations in partnership with our agency teams in North America and Europe: weekly calls, priorities, deliverable tracking, and quality control on their output

Drafting press releases, media alerts, pitches, and bylines with agency support, and responding to inbound press inquiries

Planning and executing individual launches and campaigns, including target outlets, timeline, embargo mechanics, and the asset checklist

Monitoring competitor and industry news daily, and surfacing reactive opportunities the same day they break

Managing speaking and awards submissions: sourcing calls for papers, coordinating abstracts with speakers, tracking deadlines and outcomes

Keeping the newsroom, press kit, and boilerplate current and accurate

Tracking agency scope, deliverables, and budget burn, and flagging when we are over-using or under-using them

Reporting weekly on earned coverage: volume, outlet tier, message pull-through, and share of voice

You may be a good fit if you

Are a storyteller first. You can find the human angle in a technical topic and structure a narrative that builds, and you have work you're proud to show for it

Understand developers and technical audiences. You know what earns their respect and what makes them close the tab, whether from working in developer tooling, living in dev communities, or repeatedly winning over technical audiences

Are chronically online in the best way: fluent in how internet culture moves across platforms, early to spot what's worth jumping on, and honest about what a B2B brand should leave alone

Know the unwritten rules of developer channels. You understand why Reddit downvotes what LinkedIn applauds, what survives a Hacker News comment section, and how brands earn the right to exist in those spaces

Write like it's your craft. A LinkedIn post, a video script, a byline, and a pitch in the same afternoon, each one sounding right for its channel

Have 3 to 5 years in communications, PR, social, content, or community work, with technical subject matter somewhere in the mix: software delivery, CI/CD, agentic coding, security, or platform engineering, or a track record of getting up to speed fast

Have managed project teams or agency partners: setting deliverable expectations, reviewing their work, and pushing back when it misses

Are operationally sharp. You build and maintain the calendars, trackers, and reporting that keep the work moving and make our strategy, priorities, output, and results visible to the rest of the company

Use AI fluently to research faster, explore more directions, and eliminate low-value work, while the ideas, judgment, and taste remain yours

Strong candidates may also have

Experience producing content for B2B SaaS, especially developer tools

A real footprint in developer communities such as open source, Discord, Hacker News, or Reddit, as a contributor rather than an observer

Design and video chops: Figma, Canva, Adobe Express, CapCut, or similar

Hands-on time with Sprout Social or a comparable platform, and the ability to pull, interpret, and contextualize platform analytics without help
