About the department / center:
University Media Services (a division of UD-IT) operates two performance venues on the Newark campus (Mitchell Hall and Pearson Auditorium), and provides technical support for events in the STAR Audion, Roselle Center for the Arts, and the UD community in general.
Role Description:
Under the supervision of University Media Services staff, Student AV Technicians provide multiple services in support of events and performances in Mitchell Hall, Pearson Auditorium, Roselle Center for the Arts, STAR Audion, ISE Lab and various locations around campus. Hours are variable, dependent on the event schedule, and average approximately 6-10 hours per week. Qualified candidates must be available and willing to work in the evenings and on weekends.
Primary Responsibilities:
Set up, operate, and maintain AV equipment such as projectors, soundboards, microphones, speakers, and lighting systems for events.
Interface with performers to confirm their needs are met
Help create a positive and professional atmosphere by providing top-notch customer service to event attendees and organizers.
Clean and store equipment properly after events, ensuring its safety and readiness for future use.
Work independently or collaboratively, depending on the needs of the event, while maintaining a high standard of service and professionalism.
Ensure that University and venue policies are followed by clients and performers
Qualifications:
Experience in a performing environment is a huge plus
Willingness to learn new new technology
Proven experience in operating and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment is desired
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing circumstances.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and/or mornings as needed
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs on your own without assistance
Hiring Timeline:
This is an ongoing, or evergreen, position that requires continuous hiring throughout the year to backfill vacancies or bring on additional support as needed. Applicants must be undergraduate students at the University of Delaware. Work study eligibility can be found here . Applicants who are not enrolled as undergraduate students at the University will not be considered for this position. Employment Limitations and Exceptions
Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Delaware and be in good academic standing. To be considered for additional on-campus employment, applicantscombined on-campus employment, including teaching, research and graduate assistantship, must not exceed 29.5 hours per week.
Graduate students on contract may hold additional employment, on campus or off, up to 29.5 hours per week total without approval by the student’s program, the student advisor or the Graduate College. However, graduate students on contract are encouraged to discuss additional employment with their advisors to avoid any situations that might hinder timely progress toward the degree.
