Position Purpose: Support Bethel University social media through authentic content creation, community engagement and campus storytelling while developing practical experience in professional social media marketing.

Job Description and Learning Objectives:

The Social Media Marketing Student Worker supports Bethel University's official social media presence by assisting with content creation, community engagement, campus storytelling and social media planning. The student worker will contribute to content for real audiences while learning to work within university brand standards, campaign priorities, content deadlines and platform-specific expectations.

The role provides hands-on experience in multiple areas of social media marketing, including content strategy, audience engagement, photography, short-form video, caption writing, student interviews, trend research, content planning and basic analytics. The student worker will gain experience identifying stories and moments that are relevant to Bethel's audiences, developing content appropriate for different social platforms and evaluating how content performs.

Individual areas of emphasis may vary based on the student's strengths, interests and departmental needs. One student worker may focus more heavily on community engagement and content coordination while another may contribute more extensively to photography, video or content creation. All Social Media Marketing Student Workers are expected to collaborate, contribute ideas and support the overall goals of Bethel University's social media presence.

The position is designed to strengthen professional communication, creative thinking, collaboration, content development and social media marketing skills while giving the student practical experience working as part of a professional marketing team.

Job Expectations:

Capture authentic photo and video content representing campus life, academics, events and student experiences

Assist with short-form video, Stories, posts and other platform-appropriate content

Draft captions and support social storytelling

Conduct brief student interviews and gather quotes or content

Identify and help curate user-generated content

Monitor comments, messages, tags and mentions as assigned

Assist with appropriate audience responses and community interaction

Develop polls, Q&As, student takeovers and other interactive content

Build relationships with students, organizations and campus partners to identify content opportunities

Contribute ideas to the social media content calendar

Identify campus events and experiences worth covering

Research current social media trends and recommend appropriate opportunities for Bethel

Monitor peer institutions and relevant accounts for trends and ideas

Assist with basic social media analytics and reporting

Participate in brainstorming, campaign planning and relevant Enrollment Marketing meetings

Maintain organized photo, video and content files

Support additional social media and Enrollment Marketing needs as assigned

Character and Personality:

Be friendly, approachable and comfortable interacting with others

Be creative, observant and curious

Be comfortable approaching students for photos, interviews or content

Be familiar with current social media culture and trends

Use sound judgment when representing Bethel University publicly

Be reliable with scheduled content coverage and deadlines

Be willing to receive feedback and revise work

Be proactive about identifying moments and stories worth sharing

Communicate clearly when something is unclear or cannot be completed as planned

Job Knowledge / Skills Required:

Familiarity with major social media platforms and current content formats

Basic photography and/or video-content skills

Ability to create usable content with a smartphone

Strong organization and time-management skills

Ability to learn social media management and analytics tools

Ability to follow Bethel University brand and social media standards

Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, photography or video editing is helpful but not required

Specifics:

Paid student worker position, Fall 2026

Up to 9 hours per week

Individual areas of emphasis may vary based on student strengths, interests and departmental needs

Regular weekly schedule established around class availability and departmental needs

At least one hour of recurring weekly overlap with other interns or student workers will be prioritized when schedules allow

Participate in recurring Enrollment Marketing intern and student worker team meetings

Some evening or weekend availability may occasionally be needed for campus event coverage

Some responsibilities may be completed remotely when appropriate

Social media account access may be provided based on assigned responsibilities

Provide appropriate training, supervision and meaningful professional work

Provide regular feedback on work quality, communication, deadlines and professional conduct

Include the student worker in relevant meetings, planning discussions and workplace activities when appropriate

Provide appropriate workspace, equipment and account access needed for assigned responsibilities

Provide regular opportunities for mentorship and professional development

Provide the student worker with opportunities to develop as a student, leader and future professional

Review timecards and completed student worker hours as applicable

Provide letters of recommendation or professional references when appropriate based on satisfactory job performance
