Job Description
The Henry Ford Health System and Michigan State University are seeking an experienced Senior Communications Specialist to join the Health Sciences Center (HSC) Administrative team in Detroit, Michigan. This is a strategic leadership role that combines administrative excellence with dynamic communications and marketing expertise. The successful candidate will serve as a key communicator and strategic coordinator, developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies that support HSC initiatives, enhance organizational visibility, and foster meaningful engagement across internal and external stakeholders. In this role, you will drive innovative communications solutions while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and transparency.
Develop, coordinate, and implement integrated communications and marketing campaigns that align with HSC strategic objectives, organizational priorities, and healthcare industry best practices
Create and manage professional written communications, including newsletters, announcements, web content, social media posts, marketing materials, and strategic messaging documents
Serve as a primary point of contact for communications inquiries, coordinating responses and ensuring consistent, transparent messaging across all channels and platforms
Manage administrative projects and strategic initiatives, including scheduling, documentation, stakeholder coordination, and cross-departmental collaboration
Collaborate with HSC departments, faculty, staff, and external partners to gather information, identify communication needs, and deliver targeted, inclusive messaging
Monitor and analyze communications effectiveness through metrics, feedback, and data-driven insights, recommending strategic improvements to enhance outcomes
Maintain and update HSC digital platforms, websites, and social media channels with current, accurate, engaging, and compliant content
Organize and support HSC events, meetings, presentations, and stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring professional execution and effective communication outcomes
Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and briefing materials for leadership and stakeholders, translating complex information into clear, actionable insights
Maintain organized filing systems, databases, and records related to communications and administrative functions, ensuring accessibility and compliance
Mentor and support junior communications staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment
Manage communications budgets and resources efficiently while maintaining flexibility to adapt to evolving organizational needs
Qualifications
**Required Qualifications:**
5+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related administrative roles within a corporate or healthcare environment
Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies and integrated marketing campaigns
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences and stakeholders
Proficiency with digital communications platforms, content management systems, and social media management tools
Strong project management and organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business software applications
Excellent attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy in all communications and administrative work
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapting to changing organizational needs and priorities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop data-driven communications solutions
Strategic thinking capability with experience in long-term communications planning and execution
Experience with crisis communication and stakeholder engagement during organizational transitions
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in healthcare communications or working within a health sciences environment
Familiarity with healthcare marketing regulations, compliance requirements, and industry standards
Experience with graphic design, video production, or multimedia communications
Background in budget management and resource allocation
Experience mentoring or leading communications teams
Knowledge of healthcare industry trends and best practices
Experience with healthcare-specific marketing platforms and tools
Certification in communications, marketing, or public relations from a recognized professional organization
