Emerging Journalist Fellow Job at Jobtailor in Bend

Complete three to four rotations across OPB Content teams based on interests and organizational needs

Report and edit stories for OPB News

Produce daily talk shows or news magazines

Work as a digital producer

Assist with video programs such as Oregon Field Guide and Oregon Art Beat

Participate in training in reporting, interviewing, audio and video editing, digital production, and storytelling

Participate in mentorship, career counseling, resume and cover letter development, and professional development

Meet regularly with a newsroom mentor and supervising editor

Collaborate with OPB staff and journalists across Content and other departments

Assist OPB editors and producers in promoting, planning, and recruiting for the fellowship program

Divide time between office/studio and field work for newsgathering

Travel to remote locations and potentially work in inclement weather

Requirements

Demonstrated interest in journalism through some prior experience

Eagerness for a career in public media

Ability to function in a deadline-driven environment

Commitment to high ethical standards in journalism

Enthusiasm for the mission of OPB and public media

Professional or personal experiences that will provide a unique perspective to the OPB newsroom and the field of journalism

Bilingual in English and another language preferred

Practical experience in journalism preferred

An eye for diverse voices and sources in stories preferred

Photography or video production skills preferred

Experience using digital audio recording equipment and editing software preferred

Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed

Ability to travel in-state and drive as needed

Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 20 pounds sometimes
