JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Partnerships and Civic Engagement identifies and develops strategic partnerships and civic engagement initiatives to support District priorities, expand student resources and opportunities.

Typical duties for this position include:

  • Provides strategic leadership and advises the Superintendent and senior leadership on externalrelationships, partnership opportunities, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develops and implements District-wide strategiesfor corporate, philanthropic, civic, and community partnerships.
  • Liaises with the Board of Education staff, senior management staff, Chambers of Commerce,community committees, corporate executives, civic organizations and leaders corporate executives, non-profits, and other key stakeholders.
  • Establishes systems to track partnerships, commitments, outcomes, and impact.
  • Develops and writes strategic communications
  • Establishes and facilitates committees, special teams, androundtables to improve District services and implement systems to monitor partnerships, commitments,outcomes, and impact.
  • Coordinates and works with external agencies to identify and secure philanthropic investments,sponsorships, in-kind resources, and other strategic partnerships.
  • Monitors participation rates, produces post-event and program reports and analyzes results for usein reporting as well as future program design and implementation.
  • Reviews and evaluates relevant District policies, procurement, legal, finance, and communicationsto ensure they are aligned with best practices, innovative solutions, and advance the DistrictStrategic Plan.
  • Conducts research, compiles data, and writes reports, correspondence, memoranda, and bulletins.
  • Represents the District in business, civic, philanthropic, and community settings.

Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree, preferably in publicrelations, community relations, public administration, business administration, or a related field.

Experience: Four years of supervisory or management experience coordinating andimplementing corporate philanthropy, strategic partnerships, government and communityrelations, nonprofit development, public affairs, community and civic engagement in a multi-department organization.

Special: A valid California driver license and the availability of private transportation or the ability toutilize an alternative method of transportation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be ready to provide strategic leadership in nurturing the District’s relationships with corporate philanthropy, civic organizations, nonprofits, and other external partners. They will identify, recruit, develop, and negotiate partnerships that advance District priorities, expand resources and opportunities for students, and strengthen the District’s role in the broader civic and business community. The ideal candidate will also be an external-facing institutional operator who can build high-level relationships while successfully navigating a large, complex public organization. Additionally, the candidate will be able to translate external relationships into durable institutional partnerships inside a complex public system. Lastly, the ideal candidate has abilities such as: strategic relationship management skills; institutional and political acumen; executive presence; negotiation ability and judgment; cross-functional collaboration; project management; strong written and verbal communication; and a demonstrated commitment to equity and public service.

EMPLOYMENT SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this position will tentatively consist of a Training and Experience (T&E) evaluation, technical project, and an interview. Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score.
