SENIOR PUBLICATION DESIGNER
Freelance | Remote | 20+ Hours Weekly | Potential Art Director Opportunity
Great design tells a story before a single word is read.
The Resident Community News Group, publisher of two established monthly community newspapers and one annual 200 page magazine Circles — Charity Register & Social Datebook, is looking for an exceptionally creative, experienced publication designer to join our team.
We're looking for more than someone who can fill pages. We want someone who can bring them to life.
The ideal candidate combines outstanding editorial design skills with the technical expertise to take a publication from concept to press. Someone who brings fresh ideas, takes ownership of their work, embraces new technology and understands that deadlines in publishing aren't suggestions.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Minimum five years of professional experience in magazine and/or newspaper design, layout and pagination.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
- Extensive knowledge of print production, prepress, press-ready PDFs, color management and printer specifications.
- Experience communicating directly with commercial printers, troubleshooting production issues and managing final file submissions.
- A strong creative eye for typography, editorial layouts, advertising design and visual storytelling.
- Proficiency in complex, multipage publication production, including pagination, templates and style consistency.
- A commitment to staying current with design trends, new technology and AI-powered creative and production tools.
- A GET THE JOB DONE individual with excellent organizational skills, a genuine team-oriented attitude and a strong work ethic. We’re looking for someone who truly cares about their work, takes pride in every detail, communicates openly and is personally invested in producing the best possible publication.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a remote, freelance contract position averaging 20+ hours per week, with workload varying around publication deadlines.
